so i traded up for a 6-24-56 sidewinder 30. it takes 30mm mounts so i had to get new mounts as well. on my 1" hawke i had a beman 5039 which is adjustble for windage and elevation. the 30mm two piece mount is adjustable for elevation
but not windage. when i got everything mounted up and the scope centered in its adjustment range the gun shot way to the right. almost two turns of the
windage knob. this was not acceptable. after fiddling i finally took the front mount off and turned it around so now the tightening screws are on the opposite side of the rear mounts adjustment screws. centered the scopt and shot. within about 5 clicks of being absolutely dead center.

i had also performed this same trick with my 46 stutzen and the picattiny mount and space age rings. worked like a charm.

Interesting

That the same trick would work the same way on two different guns/different rings!

PS - Doesn't really sound like you rotated your reticle??? - sounds like you kept it in place and rotated the rear of your scope. When I first read your subject, I thought you were telling us you turned the whole scope 90 degrees and the windage and elevation knobs were reversed (so right would be up and left would be down....???)

had to do with my other hawke scope. the SR12. when i say i rotated the reticle what i meant was the reticle came loose in the tube and i sent it back to hawke and upgraded to a sidewinder 30. because the sidewinder 30 is a 30 mm tube i had to change to a two piece mount and the scope was not centered. the two peice mount cannot be adjusted for windage like my beeman 5039 onme piece.
sorry i was not clear.
