pellet flight question

I was recently doing some plinking with my .22 34 Panther - I was shooting from an elevated deck into a large body of water. I noticed that if you look carefully through the scope at the instant of the shot you can see the pellet as it boogys downrange - it appeared that the pellet hooked to the right for a (very) brief time and then straightened out and traveled perfectly true until impact. Does anyone know if this "curveball" effect is actually happening or is it an optical illusion resulting from my misspent youth in the 60's ? Also, just a comment - I was really surprised at how little drop there was in the pellet flight at long range (100+ yds. - I don't have much pellet gun experience at long ranges)
Have a great Holiday weekend!!!!

scope moving with the natural recoil pattern of the rifle. it fools your eye into seeing a curve.
