I have been trying to successfully find a better more convient pellet trap and or Back stop!
Here is my latest, with a idea recieved after a trip to the local Walmart.
First: I choose these bags, they hold a hell of a lot and only cost a Buck.
2) (cleaned out closet and stuffed bags with old clothes.
So far this idea is working great. I have shot into the bags at less than 4 ft at about 750 fps. Perfect, the clothes absorb all the pellets and the bag only recieves minor pin point holes with out tearing apart.
They come with handles so you can tie to a tree, or even hang from a tree.
You can use them along with your own pellet trap as a safety backstop!
They are Lightweight and easy to transport and store. Here are some pics.
Cost is nothing, but old $1.00 and old clothes, (your wife will be happy you finally through away that ugly shirt)
Here, you can see how they can be used as a back stop. Since you can stack them, you are only limited to your imagination.
Here is a pic of one hung by a tree limb.
PS If you really want to get serious, I saw a sheet of that special Glass used for security and safety, I forget the name. But is is light weight and you can fit a piece of it in the back of the back. Cost about $11.00. With this material you should have no fear of shooting just about anything.
Here are some observations after doing a bit of shooting into the Encabanator.
1) very quiet You virtually hear nothing
2) Pellets do not travel very far into the bag
3) Pellets do not deform- very little if none of Pellet dust.
4)The material of the bag only has pin holes where the pellet enters, does not tear.
5) You can shoot point blank range with out worry of ricochet (Ideal for chrony testing)
6) light weight, easy to tote and store. You can hang them on the wall for storage.
7) so inexpensive it is ridiculous, I made 4 of these in 10 minutes
8) versatile, you can use these in so many ways, Hang them in a tree, set them next to your regular trap for added safety, use them indoors, carry bags to multiple positions in field, easy to transport, Easy to stake on post.
You could make them even smaller or less thick as the pellet does not travel far into the bag for even more convenience.
Hay Dave, don't shoot the messenger. Everyone knows that a good target holder is an important part of every backstop. Stickons tend to get target buildup after 20 or so targets, plus they carry a higher cost. The pin on idea has some merit; particularly if you use those pins with clips on them.
Have you analyzed the competition? A cardboard box with catalogs in it offers a couple hundred targets with masking tape (removed after each 20) before its time to retire it. They have low cost and a target holder people can identify with.
Jc. what attracted me to these bags were the light weight and no mess. I have 4 of them now and can just store them in a plastic trash bag. If you get a chance buy one at Walmart let me know what you think.
Well, if anyone does not care to use the bags for a pellet stop, you might want to use them to store clothes, books, junk etc. Amazing how much one of these things hold.
Don't get to WalMart that often, but will have it on the list when I do. It does seem kinda antirecycling shooting up the bag, but I guess its not as bad as my catalog backstops and soda cans inside of tin cans that I can't recycle because of the lead....
Ok, sorry but the price just went up. With the addition of the target holder bought at the dollar store and the plastic clamp, the cost sky rocked to $2.25. The target holder cost $1.00 and is made of cork. It has a rubber seal around the cork.

PS, For some reason my dumb dog always sits next the the trap.
Ok, I have given you boys enough inside info on the "Encabinator" to get the picture. Maybe you would realize that this product will take off. No more! I have had enough investors to start selling the product. It is now called "PELL-WOW"! The last pic showed the Pow-wow used as a bench rest. Some of you did not get it? I tried to hint, but well?
Ok, tonight I came home from a long day at work, wife was out with son and friends, and I had the urge to shoot! I was tired, but still needed to have my fix. What to do? I went out on the porch and brought in my PELL-WOW! I then set it up 10' from my office, pulled out my HW 70a pistol, sighted in and PELL-Wow! Quiet, took all the hits at close range without a fuss, and begged me to shoot some more. Ok, I cried! Pulled out my HW 30 and shot away. POW-WOW JUST LAUGHED! Please give me more she begged. So I pulled out my 460 and shot away! She begged for more, but it was all I had left.
Here is the deal, I will ship the PELL-WOW! TO YOU FOR JUST $89.00 complete with old clothes and include 5 new bags. Instructions on how to use the PELL-WOW! as a bench rest will be included for free.
Tie plastic grocery bags into knots and stuff them in. I have them packed into a Gamo cone trap and, so far, they seem to suck up pellets well. Of course, due to the light weight construction, I keep the fps below 800. Remarkable how tuff these thin bags are. And they seem to hold the pellets, too.
Great Idea Red, While the Prototype Pell WOW is already light weight, filled with knotted plastic bags would lighten the trap even further. The Prototype I am using now, will stop ever pellet I have shot into it, even at close range. In fact the pellets do not travel but a inch or two into the bag. Almost overkill. I am sure the Pell WOW can take any hit from any pellet gun up to the most powerful PCP. Now, lets think. The "Encabinator" (Bag) will hold an enormous amount of volume. Filled with the knotted tied plastic bags would most definitely give it more than enough stopping power and make the Pell WOW a real Feather weight trap. The only draw back is the time consumption of tying that many bags. I am going to experiment with this. Maybe even tying leaf bags together to save time.
Small update on the Pellwow- The best target holder is just a simple nail pushed through target and fabric. Paste on target stick with no problem. To Make even lighter, just stuff with less clothes. I have found out the Pellets do not travel very far into the bag at all. If shooting BB'S place a paper under the bottom as the BB'S just go very lightly into the bag or bounce to the bottom of the target. Since the PW comes with a carrying straps, you can just place a nail on a fence and just hang the bag. All the pellets remain in the bag and there is no pellet dust. Just take a few clothes out and the pellets will drop in a container. You can shoot tins of pellets into the bag and it will eventually tear the cloth but the clothes in the back still provide a good target area Or if you like, just turn the bag around. When the bag is completely gone, just pay a buck and get another one.(I have yet had to replace one bag after thousands of shots. I made 6 bags. One hangs in a tree, one on a fence and one for indoor shooting! By the way indoor chrony shooting works great as there is no ricochets and you can shoot from very close up.
