Anybody using aperture sights on Panther?

I was wondering what kind of groups you get. What range do you sight in at? How is the pellet drop, ie, if you sight in to be dead on at 20 yards, how much hold over is needed for 25 or 30 yards? I have the droop compensating base and weaver rings with a scope on order, but I was thinking of just using a Beeman sport aperture with the factory front sight.

I got this idea from Hector. It is perfect as a hunting sight. I put it on my .22 Panther, set up for 25 yards and kept inside a 1" kill zone.

That sounds interesting but I don't want to file off the fiber optic front sight.

i used a beeman/williams on my 52 with good results

the 52 has subsantial droop but it was not a problem. the optimum sight in range depends on the trajectory. is your rifle a .177 or .22? that will make a difference. for .177 i found that a zero of 40 yds worked well for me for FT with the peep. the low sight line (as opposed to the hight sight line with a scope) made for a flat trajectory with minimal hold over/under with the .177 at
950 fps. at the apex of about 27yds i was less than half an inch high. so, between 15 and 45 yds you are well within a 1" kill zone. point blank range will vary with your velocity so it helps to know that.

OOps..my mistake. It's a .22 caliber shooting CP's in the 680's. I would have expected more hold over. I've only ever used a peep on a Slavia 631 shooting at 10 yards and under. I didn't know what to expect with a higher powered air rifle at longer ranges. I'll use a scope to pick out the best pellet, then switch to aperture.

peep sights

OK:

Williams/ Mendoza/ Avanti / Beeman peep sights are not that bad if you have!!!

a good eye sight

the key is the front sight with the rear to be in synch

front can be POST, PUMKING, BLADE, ROUND but the back dictates what you can see from the front to the rear

try them and you will be AMAZED

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

I have a Beeman aperture with target knobs. I was just going to try it with the stock fiber optic front sight.
