Just bought a RWS mod. 54. Need a scope that will not fall apart w/ recoil. Will a bushnell trophy 4-12x40AO work on this outfit? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thankx.
FWIW - I have a BSA 3-12x airgun scope mounted via a Beeman (aka Sportsmatch) one-piece adjustable mount on my RWS 52. Absolutely zero problems - totally solid. I've also killed two Hawke Varmint2 scopes.
I recently had some problems with my 54 and ended up going with a Leupold 3-9X33 EFR and a new RWS one piece mount. I shot about 300 rounds with the new setup and no problems at all...then just sent it off for a tune.

use good BKL mounts, the 1" ers are now back again in stock with droop.
Either Vortex Optics Diamondback 3-12X40 AO scope or the SightMark 3-12X40 Triple Duty will stand up in good mounts. SightMarks are 30 mm's tubes, so you will need to get the mounts drooped by Mac-1.
Barska's 3-12X40 AO Airgun model also makes a good airgun scope.
All will be in the $70-$400 region MSRP, but shop around.
I have to agree with Hector, the BKl mount is very good, I have had one on my 52 for 2 years now with no problem with the mount itself. The Bushenll Trophy scopes are pretty decent. I am using the 6-18 model on my gun and have run over 5,000 rounds on it. Now thing is that when the scope was new it was right on the money, I can tell you this much it has never wrecked the reticle or a lens, but after this many shots on that scope it does not seem as good as when it was new. I have sent the scope back to Bushnell and they send it back telling me that it is okay but don't think they do anything to it. Depending on how much you will shoot your gun the Trophy or at least mine has held pretty good. Scopes are still a thing to deal with for various reasons.
As I mentioned in another post recently, My Diana 54 is slowly killing my scope - or maybe it just seems like it does. It's a Bauer scope, please don't ask for technical details. It has a zoom very comfortable for target shooting out to 5 meters (means I can easily tell where the pellet has hit) and naturally a parallax-compensator ring (sp?) on its front end.
Some five monts ago I tried shooting far distances so I set up a shooting range with targets ranging from 15 to 125 meters.
Naturally I used full zoom for far distance - and I cannot recal any problems with the sharpness of the picture my scope showed.
I set the Parallax to ...er... "endless" (well that horizintal number eight, you know).
No everything beyond 80 meters is pretty blurred...cannot compensate with parallax anymore.
Strange though - out to 50 meters I still score as nicely as I am used to.
- Jumps form POI to another
- Blurs or cannot be adjusted to what it used to
- Has a rotating reticule
- Has rings and pieces that are coming off
- Rattles when shaken
it needs changeing.
Go for a 3-12 X 40 Leapers Mini AO or a 3-12 X40 Barska (the airgun version), but DO GET A GOOD MOUNT.
Out to 50 meters either one of them are plenty enough.
well, The base is OK - it's still firmly on the same spot it has been when mounted.
I guess I will have to start a new thread about how to mount a scope 'cause I never did that before - the new scope should arrive by the end of this week - and I am pretty insecure about how to do it right.
Maybe I should see a gunsmith for a professional mounting procedure... dunno.
Yesterday I mounted my new Leapers scope right ont that base my old scope was mounted on. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it might be. Took my 54 into the woods and sighted it. It's now zeroed on 50 Meters.
The new optic is very sharp and with mildots the effort of hitting targets at different distances became a cake.
Only up to approx. 20 Meters the scope cannot focus which could be due to the fact that it has no parallax compensation but that is something which I can live with.
Thanks Héctor for suggesting this scope.
