This is Chalkidiki in Greece my friend! wink.gif

Really? Is this the usuall 54 stock? It doesn't look like that on the web photos so I always thought that I have a one of a kind rifle with a 54 action mounted on 52 wood...

Paradise!

September 7 2009, 1:14 PM

Sorry to make a COMPLETELY irrelevant post, but, wow... Greece huh? Paradise it may be and definitely enough to make me religulous. I'm glad I speak a small amount of the native language. It's going to make moving there a little easier.

Joel,

Greece is definately a great place. And every part of it has it's own charm - both mainland and the infamous islands.

Too bad I have to spend my winters due to professional obligations up north in Sweden... I will be moving back soon permanently. How did you learn Greek in Sacramento???

Greek in the USA

September 7 2009, 1:51 PM

Dimitris:

I live in Tampa, Florida, 45 minutes from me is Tarpoon Springs a small community that is 50% Greek in its population and over more that 100 years old, they are a really old Greek fishermen community in the USA

every year for Nativity they perform the dive in the bay for the cross

any Greek under 18 years old assembles in boats in the middle of the bay, the religious leader throws a metal cross in the water and 100 kids dive to find it

the one that finds the cross and surfaces with it is told that for 365 day's he will be blessed

sorry: I am not Greek, not 18 years old and that water is really COOOOOLD even for Florida's temperature

but a superb spectable to see these Greek Kids perform and it is a one of a kind show to see, year after year and it is free to the public

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Geia sou Dimitri

I had a strong feeling those blue waters belonged to either the Aegean sea or Mediteranean.

I was in Chalkidiki when I was 12 or 13. We went there for Easter and spend 3 days at a hotel which was right on the shore, very similar shore/beach to the one in your pics. Chalkidiki is beautiful, surrounded by water on 3 sides and those big inlets make for nice calm waters.

Have you met Christos our other native Greek?

Hope you stay warm in Sweden!! Big difference in climate between the 2 countries.

Yeap!

It looks like we are quite a few Greek airgun heads hanging around in this forum!

Warren

That Greek tradition you are talking about sounds like the celebration that's called  "Theophania" in greek. It's actually a typical religious ceremony of blessing the waters every 6th of January http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphany_(holiday)

The "religious leader" is nothing more than the Greek Orthodox priest from the local congregation. It's impessive how the expatriates are still holding on and actively participating to homeland's customs and traditions while the natives here in Greece are turning their backs to them and tend to adopt a more "globalized", generic way of life.

1st Greek airgunners meeting??? When, where, how? Info please!

Dimitris

You 're too funny Warren!

September 8 2009, 4:45 PM

Modern historians said there were actually about an estimated 200,000 Persians the Spartans fought against, although ancient historians wrote 1/2-1 million Persians. 10,000 Persians is nothing. 10,000 was just the slaves they brought along to cook, serve and clean although there were probably more. There were also another 6-7,000 Greeks fighting along the Spartans but the Spartans were up front and did most of the killing and when they got tired they fell back and the other Greeks (from Thebes, Corinth, etc.) gave them a small break until the Spartans caught their breath and switched places again.

Well that's 3 Greek-born Greeks that you know of (I assume Dimitris is, not sure). I know there are a couple of 2nd generation Greek-Americans here too. I just can't remember their names. It was a while ago. Don't worry we 'll be taking over the forum soon Warren, a little at a time, no rush happy.gif

Xristo: Sorry to hear you missed your own airgunners meet! You should organize another one soon. I am happy to hear they were drinking coffee and not Ouzo and shooting, hehehe. Your English is getting better my friend. How is your father doing? Shoot me an e-mail with your latest news. I need to brush up on my Greek happy.gif

IP lookup...haha

September 12 2009, 5:11 PM

There is a huge Greek community in Central California. While I'm not Greek, I learned enough from my friends to be able to carry on a middle school level conversation. I'll also admit that wanting to get closer to Greek girls motivated me more than anything. I would memorize lines from the back of CD covers and pick apart song lyrics to really impress the koritsia.

Nice place you got there.
