I've been looking at the Webley and Scott line for another spring rifle to complement my Diana. What do the fine folks here think of the new Webleys? I know that everything is now made in Turkey and some folks might believe that the quality had to have dropped. I'm considering a Tomahawk and I'm not sure about caliber yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Don't do it. The Turkish guns are nowhere near the quality they used to be, you won't be happy with it. Most of the major online retailers no longer carry the Webley line, that should tell you something is wrong. Quality didn't just drop, it fell right off the page. If you want a Webley look for a real one, made in the UK.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm not closing my mind, but the first two responses to my question were quick and clear. UK = OK. Turkey, not so much.
If you are going to buy a Webley you might as well save some money and buy a Winchester it's the same gun, unless you get a older Webley from England . howie
I just got this one & MAN is it nice!! My choice of threaded on breaks!! I cant comment on the new ones,,, have not shot one yet. "Old Tim" [IMG][/IMG]
An old UK Tomy is OK , but you'd probably need a custom stock to get the best from it, Diana's stocks fit well, actions and people and that's a big thing.
Older basic UK Webleys are good 12/13 maybe 14ftlb guns in 22, remember the old ones had pivot pins not boltslike Diana's which are easy to tighten.
Webleys had some dinky models, with light weight too. For 177 stick to Diana
Take the Tracker, for instance. Nice little carbine. I have one sold as the Barnett Spitfire. Don't see where the stock is deficient or poorly fitted. Even has a floating recoil pillar. Lots of good machine work, as well. Don't confuse the UK made guns with the Turkish. When they outsourced the plant they lost all of that workforce knowledge.
Tommy's are VERY hold sensitive bastards, I own 2!
The diana's are easier to shoot, as are HW's and the webleys with LW barrels (longbow)
Allthough their finish is STUNNING, far better than any other brand, and they looks and balance great, with very good triggers, they áre difficult to shoot really accurate.
That's why I said you need a custom stock for a Tommy
I got rid of mine, Webley sadly didn't used to worry about the action fitting well in their stocks, which is why they are hold sensitive, hope that helps -
Their stockfitting is not the problem I think, its the webley barrels+ they're very lightweight+ powerfull. My tuned tommy has a standard stock but a LW barrel and its not hold sensitive. The Longbows arent hold sensitive either.
The webley barrels arent choked and are very pellet fuzzy as well.
At about 3.6?kg they're half a kg lighter than an HW or AA. That makes them VERY lively to shoot at full power.
Mine are fully tuned, lazaglided, but even thán VERY lively.
sold me a Webley Xocet in .22 and it shoots 700 fps w/14.3 gr. pellets and it has a 16" barrel (Carbine) and not a bad shooter without the BUZZ, TWANG, VIBRATION that my M34's have
no barrel drop and is capable of shooting GAMO pellets 15.3 gr. very nicely
some air rifles SHINE in the 650 fps. in .22 cal (TX 200) and others are close in the 700 fps department BUT not as accurate as the TX
warren
PS: HEY Paul, do you have another UK webley for sell???
and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
I just sold another .22 Xocet in Ex. shape To Ray in Alaska the
other day. I had it on the yellow !! Real nice gun with open sights.
If I do sell another, I'll let you know. Have a good Thanksgiving !!
Webley , I own 6 Patriots. I can tell you this. They are second to none in machine work. The bluing is the best I have seen. The trigger some bitch about but don't know how to tune it,. I love the gun. Only fault I find is the end cap but thats because I mod them for extensive power.
That C1(pictured above) is as good as it gets! It is MZ tuned and shoots magnificent! Yes it is a old gun, and Diana only wishes that their new guns shot as well as this little carbine!
One solid gun. Fast, accurate, deadly hunter.
My brother lucked out. I found a Brand new never shot C1 in a firearm store.(Owner found it after many years). He will be getting it for Christmas, after MZ goes over the gun. I will keep the original spring in it for him. Great spring, should be go for 5k rounds before he has to order a spring kit.
At least, the older ones. Some of the Vulcans were direct sear triggers. The one in my Spitfire (Tracker renamed) is a very decent hunting trigger. From the vintage, I would say it is the same as the Vulcan I/II.
and Paul has been very, very, good for me. Like Chris, I love the Patriots the most but my collection of other models is growing. The Brits just do guns well. The Hatsan made Webleys (no longer made) make good accurate, hard hitting hunting guns if you know how to tune them, especially the triggers. But compared to the UK Webleys, they're truck guns.
