Recommended mount for m48

Mounted several non droop compensated rings I had but at 10 yards with max elevation adjusted just barely hitting bull. Do 48s usually have droop? Is this a total Diana thing? Any recommended mounts?

Thanks

Andy Wong aka larspawn

P.S. Warren, should I take the BFH to the barrel? LOL

they have drooooooop in spades

there is a UTG droop compensating mount for about 17.00 for the base. it uses UTG space age rings (low). this mount is made especially for these rifles and has a flange on the front that drapes over the front of the scope rail. this prevents the mount from walking off the back of the rail. there are three versions available. one is specifically for the diana 48/52/54. availabe at pyramid air.

the other choice is a beeaman 5039 adjustable one piece mount. you can adjust both droop and windage within the mount. this is for a 1" tube scope. this is a very solid mount.

I go with Larry's advice for mounts OR

Andy:

you did correct that M34 that shot like a scatter air rifle you can do the same with the M48 or get the droop compensating mounts' Larry writes about

the Beeman 5039 "SportsMatch" is close to $85.00, quite expensive the UTG are cheaper and they also work

my choice has always been to WHACK that barrel into submission and BYE, BYE barrel droop that way any mount will work

OR;

ask Howie to cut the barrel to Carbine size (16"), Howie has a B21 which is a copy of the M48 and he cut his barrel to 12" with no problem in accuracy, IN FACT!!! I believe it is even better now

it's your decision my friend

My Advice Andy,,,

Use a standard mount with a good stop & just put a shim under the scope on the rear base. (Between the scope & mount) It works like a charm. happy.gif Tim.

Hey Warren...I'm not that brave!

October 25 2009, 4:03 AM

Warren, yes the BFH barrel tune worked like a charm on the 34 LOL. But the 48 was so new and shiny I didn't have the heart to start a whackin at it! Maybe after a few beers I might have the cojones to beat the barrel into submission! Ever hear the phrase *scared straight?*

Okay bought a droop compensated mount from Fuller. Should arrive soon. We'll see. In the meantime, did my old trick of shimming the mount with black electrical tape. This one took 4 thicknesses to get bull at center of elevation adjustment. I've never had a major noticible problem with this method but would think over time the vinyl will compress and migrate thus throwing off adjustment. So I did opt for the permanent solution given the recoil power of the 48.

So what is it with you Diana guys? Why do they engineer in this infamous droop into every barrel? Is this some ploy to sell compensating rings? I've not had to deal with this problem on any other rifle line. Just my two Dianas. Is this part of the allure for you Diana guys? I mean the ritual of getting a Diana and then cursing the damn barrel? I know people like you with lots of Dianas must be those kind of guys that like to have something to bitch about! LOL

Either that or you guys have such bad eyesight the droop is some kind of bi-focal compensating design. RLMFAO!

Okay better end here before I really piss you off! happy.gif

Andy

that is called discrimination

October 25 2009, 6:27 AM

Andy:

the barrel on the M34 is the same steel as the M48 what is good for the rooster applies also to the hen

the shim with tape is not 100% effective and eventualy that scope will travel SOUTH of the border, I used strips of camera film (KODAK) or aluminum foil

Diana has in the past, present and future produced on purpose ALL of their air rifles with the INFAMOUS droop effect, some people live with it others go BONKERS trying to correct it, that is until the BFH method was introduced to me OR I cut the barrel to carbine size (16") and add a crown and choke, of course you loose the front sight capability

the droop is supposed to assist the shooter with iron sights at least that is the concensus from them across the BIG pond (Europe)

funny but you DO NOT get the same amount of droop in all of them, I had a M34 where the scope was max-out in elevation shooting at 20 yards when I decided to take the whole thing out and install in another M34

that other M34 shot 2" high and I had click the scope down, so much for barrel droop 101

other people complain about cosmetic issues with their Diana like a plastic trigger, NO rubber pad in the M34 and so forth

I used to go "BALLISTIC" about those small things, now I just accept them as a fact of life, this issue is always one that comes every 2 or 3 months in this forum

warren

PS: the barrel in the M48 is only 17.3" long, compared to the BIG nose M34 at 19.5"

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Re: Recommended mount for m48

Beeman (aka Sportsmatch) one-piece adjustable mount. It will fix all your problems - guaranteed. It is the only adjustable mount that will stay put on a magnum springer. Highly recommended. Only problem it's rather pricey. I tried one of the weaver compensated mounts - the correct one for the gun. It overcompensated by a bunch and also had me shooting about 3" left - others have said it works for them. IMHO - they have quality control issues.

There are only two options to consider

October 23 2009, 3:11 PM

the Beeman and the UTG. And if cost is a factor, only one option - the UtG.

Both are rock solid. The beeman runs up around $75 and is 100% fully adjustable. the UTG takes care of the droop and runs about $17 for the base and $10 for some rings.

The UTG is on my 48 and will stay there!!!!!!!!!!
