i shot a match yesterday that was probably a precursor to the state champs.set on the same course. the couse was set by Joe Hadad, a multiple state and national FT champ. joe set a tough course. try .25 kill zone at 15yds with a wind gusting to 10 mph that moves your body. try a 1" kill zone at 50 yds with the same conditions. courses like this hone your skills and make you humble. how did i do?
i won high springer and beat the 2007 state champ by 2 shots. he beat me by 4 last time so i am still 2 behind. last years champ was not there but i will have to deal with him and 5 or six other guys that can beat me on any given day.
i had the oportunity to shoot a Wischombe. what an amazing piece of craftsmanship. its a two stroke which means you cock two springs. the two pistons oppose each other. the recoil is cancelled out. this is the finest looking springer i have seen. there are about 400 of them in the world since JW stopped making them. the fellow who brought this one owns 5. i told him they must be in his 401k. James shot his first ever ft match and shot a 19 out of 44 which is very good for a first time shooter who was using a 7.3 grn pellet with a range card i set up for him for 10 grn pellets. he scares me!.
i was teamed with Joe Hadad and a pleasure to shoot with him. he was cleaning the course until the last two lanes where he missed the two long targets. he has no one to blame but himself. he set the course and of course i let him know his folly. he was a good sport though.

with cunning.
not to mention i ride a bike 3+ times a week and lift weights 2 to 3 times a week. i don't have trouble finishing a 44 shot match in good form. i did legs this morning and did leg presses of 400 lbs for 12 reps. i will max the machine soon and have to just increase reps. then i did leg curls, leg extensions, inner and outer thigh and chest and back. i also do specific core work with planks and the abdominal machine.
my 18 year old daughter says i'm a "stud muffin". and there is absolutely nothing wrong with me that being 20 would not cure (except poverty and stupidity)
Even if you have not told us what was your score! LOL!
Whiscombes are tricky guns. There are SO MANY operations involved in loading one that, at least in FT matches, I've seen and heard two dry fires. One at the GOB (TN) and another at Westfield (MA).
Just on that front I object to those guns. Now, having said that, yes they do shoot smoothly.
BUT, as Warren says: 30% is the gun, the rest . . .
