OK I just got started on the Stutzen stock for the RWS 48 I have Warren's RWS 48 to use for fitting and his stock for using to copy. I started with a nice piece of 4/4 quater x 8 " x 8 ft. Walnut and I've cut it in half to laminate it together so we will not have any warpage this will stablize the mtls. Also the wood is a color match whis way we used to make all our teak cabinets out the same color teak for each boat so all the cabinates matched , teak also has many colors . Next was to lay out the stock and cut out the outside of the stock as you will otice I have left the top of the stock flat without any cutting this is so when I use my table router or the table saw to cut out the inlets for the action I have a flat surface to work from. The next is to lay out the inlets using the RWS 48 stock as a templet as you will notice I've clamped they together so I can transfur the cuts from one to the other stock so I have a accurate place to use as a guide for the cutting. see the pictures the next set of picitures will be of the stock having the inlets cut out. howihttp://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1257092456.JPG [linked image] [linked image] [linked image] [linked image] [linked image] [linked image]

Dear Mr. In 't Veld ( Dutch way of writing your name happy.gif : this is looking very serious and here we see the hand of the master ! Is the stock 101 cm. long or do you make it longer ? It's impressive to see how punctual the lines are on the wood, I am sure this will be something very special. No need to see I am your "first customer" !! I will follow the proces very interested, best regards from Johannis.

Stutzen RWS 48

November 1 2009, 10:24 AM

Yes that is the Dutch way of spelling my name my dad made one word out of it so it would sound more American that has happened a lot with new people coming into the county some of my cousin's have keep the old spelling. My great grandmother came here with 7 children as a widow her husband was a seaman and never came back one day the ship came back without him this was a common thing to happen in her time life as a seaman was a hard life. And very dangerous,And sometimes I wounder if that is way I love boats and sailing as well as fishing and diving. I'm 71 and still scuba diving I hold a master diver certification and have lost count of how many dives I have done. I would like your input as how I will finish the outside should I end up making it a normal type cheek plate or go with a Tyrolean type. The next step is cutting out the inside to make the rifle action fit and floating the barrel the original stock has about 2 inches of stock supporting the barrel that will work fine with the balance of the barrel floating, this should let the rifle keep the same point of impact. And the overall length is at 100 cm ( 39.4 inched ) with a trigger to butt plate distance of 14.5 inches. This is a combined effort of both Warren and I he is lending the WRS 48 to be the pattern as well advise on the fitting and design as well as his experience with RWS rifles. Also their is a possibility of making 2 stocks like this of their is a market for them, and should their be two types of cheek plates?? howie

Cheeck plate.

Howie, I think the nicest cheeck plate is the style you can see on the pictures of the Krico Stutzen I send you earlier this week. When you have the advise of Warren it will certainly become the best rifle there is ! Best regards from Johannis.

it is the Krico Stutzen from "Jan" or the Blaser Stutzen that "ME" has in mind they are close twin brothers

either way we keep the stutzen tradition without changing them, "WHY" do a bastard stutzen air rifle stock, LOL

lets' keep the stutzen wood stock a stutzen, but it is still your final call Howie and just my opinion

warren

PS: where TH (the hell) is RF when I need him?? (Red Feather)

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
