Holy CRAP they are pricey! Does Diana do these in limited run batches?
I think a T01 54 in .22 will top off my collection pretty nicely, think so?
AA S410 TH .177
RWS 240 .177
RWS 34 Panther .177
RWS 34 Panther .177
RWS Model 48 T01 .177
Beeman P1 .177
I have the .177 and would love the .22, as well. Got to keep your eye out for a good used one. They occasionally come up for about $400. Seen several in that ballpark but all were .177's.
But the M54 is the recoilless Flagship of the Diana line up. Compared to other spring rifles they really aren't that bad ($558 @ Aof A as of 16 Nov 09), considering a BSA SuperSport is $479 and a HW 80 will set you back that much or more (again, AofA pricing). Beeman labeled rifles (R-1 etc) are even more. They do show up on the classified from time to time too, but I got mine as a refurbished rifle from Airgun Express(anyone remember them?) before they went out. My M54 does not have the obligatory "R" stamped any where on it. That may have been started when Umarex started selling the refurbs, but I don't know that for sure. My refurb has been trouble free since day one, and it's even better since Ed K tuned it. I would recommend trying the refurb route if a new rifle is beyond your financial reach and you can't find a used one either. Just my $0.02
I will have to buy some. Truth be told, I don't shoot it that often (really need to go to the range) and don't own a chrony. Think I will have to get one of those, alas, as I'm starting to tinker with guns now. Baby steps, mind you, but have some old ones that could use a diagnosis.
and 915 with JSB Heavies, 910 with 9.5gr RWS SuperMags. Haven't really shot anything lighter than 9.5 through this gun yet.
Refurbs from Umarex are currently $375 IIRC...
that's between 18 and 19 fpe! Is it true that the recoil system on the 54's doesn't work or works to a lesser degree the more you hold rifle from level? I'm just wondering if it still works if you were shooting at squirrel up in a tree.
To Redfeather: yes, get yourself a chrony and start worrying about the #'s like all the rest of us LOL! Seriously though, they are a great diagnostic tool. I have a prochrono and it's great.
thanks, Scott
It will work with arrows, throwing knives, sling shots, pea shooters, slings (got to have slings if you've got arrows), spit wads, paper clips, flying squirrels, tiddlie winks, you name it. If it moves, it can be chronographed. I suspect that there is a secret connection between psychiatrists and chronograph manufacturers. Chron-ograph.....Chron-ic depression.... Ever see posts from guys whose favorite gun is chronied and then they discover it's shooting 100 fps lower than they reckoned? Oh, the deep-ression! Sad, sad, sad. Time to head for the shrink's couch and snag a couple of Qualudes on the way. I will get a chronograph one day. (One day AFTER I get a PCP, LOL! Never! Never, never, never, never, never!!! MwaaaaaaHaaaHa!)
Hi, Rws 54's are worth mega dollars here in New Zealand.
My 54 is my main hunting airgun and I paid $1300Nzd to own it, they're usually $1500+ here.
I bought a 54 (04/06) T05 .177 after reading about it on this forum. They're very differcult to source in this part of the world so I understand that I'm extremely fortunate to enjoy hunting with one and I'm currently trying to purchase another in .22 for $950 2nd hand
Ok, can't seem to locate a T01 Model 54 in .22... Seems that it will be a T05, but am now considering a 48 as it is cheaper. Is the 54 recoilless system worth the extra dough and weight? This will be my first .22 caliber air rifle compared to my .177's, a wise decision to get a the larger caliber for hunting? This might start my venture into the .22 caliber air rifles as well if I stick with it. So many decisions... (48 has no frills stock that has a shorter LOP, 52 has a nicer stock with a comb and has longer LOP, 54 has the slide rails, stock, and is heavier)
I only have the 54 but have handled the 48/52's. Not much difference plus the 54 "hangs well" for me offhand. Probably a balance thing. There are those who like the 48/52's but I bought my 54 because of the anti-recoil. While you have to be careful in scope selection/mounting, the 54 will be much easier to shoot well and is not hold sensitive, offhand or benched. I feel that makes them, again, for me, the far better choice between the two. Be patient. A .22 will eventually turn up.
I have a 54 with a leapers 8-32X56 in .177. It is a real good shooter.
But I also have a 52 with the luxus stock in .22 and I really like the way
it shoots also. A very mild shooter and a slimmer, sportier feel to it.
And it really smacks the swingers hard compared to the 54.
Appreciate the comments guys, I found a used 52 on the GTA at a decent price so am gonna grab it... I also ordered a AA S410 TDR, both of these are in .22... Also ordered a case of pellets from Boris at TopGun Airguns, just FYI Boris has a Christmas PRICE on the TDR that I bought and helped me out on a few other items... Might be worth an inquire if interested in any TAU's or Air Arms, maybe just a case of pellets which is 5 sleeves. I ordered some extra parts for the TDR as well like a 17ft lb conversion and a carbine air cylinder for more shots per fill. Unfortunately I still need to order a Hawke 2-7x32 for the TDR and BKL rings. The RWS 52 will get the Hawke 2-7x32 scope setup off of one of my 34's to save some dough.
When I started this thread Umarex had a refurbed 54 in .22 for $370 or so so was VERY tempted but was anal and wanted a T01... ended up I missed it for being hesitant... (kinda like me not taking an Army or Navy ROTC scholarship.... I wish I wasn't so hard headed at times)
So list will be:
.22 AA S410 TDR
.22 RWS 52, Future JM VRT kit
.177 AA S410 ERB-SL-TH
.177 RWS 48, JM GSI heavy kit
.177 RWS 34's, JM GRT kits
.177 RWS 240, JM lubed
.177 Beeman P1, JM spring
Yeah those are pricey air rifles. I do like the quality for the price though. I'm an HW/Beeman fan but I do have a couple of Dianas that I find myself shooting ALOT lately. I have a RWS 48 .22 T05 trigger that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It is deadly accurate and smacks hard. I was wondering what is your opinion on the RWS 48 .177? I was thinking about topping off my collection with one. Would be glad to hear from you. Semper Fi Joe.
