I was in for a big surprise when Vortek sent me a package that I was so eagerly waiting for.they sent me two springs!....a 32 coil prelubed .130 HIY fitted with the famous Proguide and a 5mm flanged plastic top hat and another, a 28coil .142 HIY fitted with a 7.7mm heavy metal tophata pro seal and two plastic containers containing heavy tar and a special lubricant with excellent film adhersion properties.and also a whole lot of metal and delrin/nylon spacers and a sample front stock screw with a delrin boss for better service contact.
More than what I had asked for!

In the beginning I had requested Tom to handpick the newest and the best kit he had.
They took a couple of days to send me the kit....man, didnt they engineer it well.
I tested both the springs.
The 32 coil one with the plastic top hat did not cock initially, Vortek had squeezed in an extra coil to meet my requirementI had told them that I would be using only heavy pellets...their standard for the 54 PG2 is 31 coils.Tom suggested that i to do away with the top hat and then try I machined a tight fitting metal centering washer with a 2mm flange and tested it.installation was a breeze, Vorteks kits powerful kits come in small packages.

Result smooth cocking, a short, quick and sharp shot cycle.no buzz, no twang, no vibrationthe action just moved back in a great hurry and the pellet too was long gone.this gun had never shot like this before!
I had only the heavy pellets on my mind all through this 54 experiment drama which has been going on for a while now LOL
Velocity with High Impact 19gr pellets (the best that you can lay your hands on in India)
723.5, 714.8, 713.1, 711.7, 721.0 (maximum energy 22.08ft/lbs)
Velocity with RWS Superdome 14.3gr pellets
828.0, 827.0, 834.0, 837.8, 839.5 (maximum energy 22.38ft/lbs)
Next I tried the short 28coil .142HIY with the heavy top hat
Result smooth cocking although a little heavy.this one too a short, quick and sharp shot cycleI could hardly notice the difference between the two set ups.the chrony had a slightly different tale to tell
Velocity with High Impact 19gr pellets
738.7, 740.6, 735.0, 730.4, 734.0 (maximum energy 23.14ft/lbs)
Velocity with RWS Superdome 14.3gr pellets
816.0, 823.1, 819.0, 821.3, 816.4 (maximum energy 21.51)
You can clearly see that the earlier spring handled the lighter pellets better, this one was developing too much force for the fella to stay in place.hence the lower velocity.
For maximum velocity I had used a run in Maccari seal during both the tests with an OD of 28.3mm (thanks to Chris of C.A.P), the pro seal measured 28.65

So the heavier set up staysI had particularly asked Tom to send me a kit for the heavy pelletbut it it is clear that their standard product will more than satisfy 54 users
Their customer service has been OUTSTANDING throughout and Tom had been a great help all through
They have engineered and designed this kit very well.i know for sure from my experience when any gun shoots like that.
A BIG THANKS TO VORTEK AND EVERYONE HERE AT DIANAWERK
