Hello,

I am new to this board, so it is appropriate to introduce myself.

I live in Toronto, Canada. My focus is on writing copy.

Being born on the wrong side of the digital divide, my technical skills need continuous improvement (Yes, I know - I have just dated myself, but that's ok)

Every once and a while I do have a few questions (someone once said even stupid questions are good questions). For those of you who are technical whizzes, your assistance is appreciated.

1. How do you write the code so that when a person clicks on your mailto: link, her browser is instructed to insert both something in the subject line and her name, allowing your auto-responder to pick this up, so the response message is personal? (I believe you do the first one by stating info_ffa@goldbar.net?subject=Information. It is the second one which has me stumped)

2. Would there happen to be resource you can access at no cost that tells you all about these handy little tricks and tips? (I should know the answer to this one, but for some reason, I have not found the answer)

4. E-mail open rates. Is there a device, tool or code you can place in your email messages which will allow you to measure the number of people that actually open the message? This would be helpful when testing headlines on your email messages. I appreciate that some of the more sophisticated auto-responders have this feature, however for the budget conscious among us, a simple way to do this would be of value.

I appreciate your taking the time to review this message and I thank those in advance for taking the time to respond to this message.

Kind regards,

John
