All I can add to what has already been said is that to get a quick start, so you can shoot right out of the blocks with all guns blazing, you need to identify some good affiliate programs that you can promote.

Once you have done this you need to start promoting them via various marketing methods, such as pay per click search engines, solo ads or using a joint venture etc.
There are a few good ebooks around that show you exactly how to promote affiliate programs that are readily available from just about anywhere.
Some that come to mind are "How to Outsell Other Resellers and Become a Super Affiliate" and "Gary Shawkey Secrets - How to Become an Expert Affiliate Marketer Overnight"
These two ebooks have been around awhile, but there methodology is sound and if you implement a strategy based on their advice you won't go too far wrong.
If you look hard enough you should be able to pick them up for free as bonus products when you sign up for various ezines etc.
Another excellent ebook is Rosalind Gardner's new "Super Affliate Handbook -How I made $436,797 Last Year Selling Other Peoples Stuff Online" but this will set you back from betwen $97.00 and $47.00.
However, the most important factor in being successful online is to build your own opt in email list. Ask any successful marketer and they will tell you that up to 80% of all their sales are made from their subscriber list.
So your number one priority when starting out is to build as large a list as you possible can. Once you do this, you can create your own "money train" and virtually make money on demand.
Either way, you must be proactive in your marketing and take an agressive attitude, otherwise in 12 months time you will still be wonder what you need to do to make money online.
