Blogs as Marketing Tool?

Electronic commerce is rapidly proliferating. The cyberspace is crowded with various businesses competing for customers. This led to companies utilising various types of offline and online marketing to promote their websites.

Blog or blogging is becoming very popular. Blogs were even used in Howard Dean's campaign as a promotion and election tool. For example, blogs gave the campaign a new way to engage supporters in nearly real time (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,114765,00.asp).

Can blogs be used as an effective marketing tool to promote websites? How can it be used effectively to benefit online companies and customers?
