Hi Declan,
One way to get your site indexed quickly by the search engines, and create an additional stream of income in the process, is to install both a "Google site & web search" box on your site as well as display Googles ads.
Just go to their main page at
http://www.google.com and click on the "Advertising Programs" link. Go through the application process and when your site is approved, install everything on your site as per their extensive step-by-step directions.
With the Google site search function enabled, your site visitors will have the opportunity to search your site for information. As soon as someone (you do it first) tries to search your site, Google HAS NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO INDEX YOUR SITE in order to deliver the results! Providing your sites internal link structure is sufficient, you'll have every single page on your site in Googles database in a matter of seconds.
I haven't done this for a while so there's no guarantee but it has worked for me on several occasions in the past.
With your site listed in Googles database it will also show up in a number of other major search engines as well, since many of them subscribe to it's database feeds. Not to mention on the thousands of other sites with web search enabled.
Also, with the google ads on your site, anyone leaving through those links creates a few cents in additional revenue. It's an excellent way to monitize some of that exit traffic. Anyone who views your site will eventually leave it. You may as well use that opportunity to generate some revenue.
Hope this helps,
Paul Short
PS: I like your site. Catering to niche markets and local geographic areas is an excellent positioning strategy. Have you thought of placing small 1 or 2 line classified ads in your local major daily newspapers?
