I agree; there is a big problem with over-hyped products which tend to disappoint. You can see the attraction to newcomers though.
As for promoting your business, here's my top 3 general marketing strategies...
1. Articles - They don't have an immediate impact (unless your an excellent writer). But they've got great longevity, years. Plus there's a simple formula - The more you write the more traffic you get.
2. Directories - The big ones; requires 5 minutes of your time to write an ad which can bring around 30 or so targeted unique visitors back to your website.
3. Forums - Again your getting good targeted traffic, dependant on your participation (..and forum popularity) you should expect around 50+ unique visitors.
