Please respond to this survey on Dog Livestock Herding

by

My name is Karen Kostan; I am a doctoral candidate in Animal Behavior at the University of California - Davis. I am contacting you to ask for your assistance in research I am conducting on livestock herding and human/dog relationships.

A principle component of my research is an online survey about herding experiences. I would like your participation in an additional supplementary survey to be taken by dog owners who DO NOT participate in livestock herding. The questions focus on experiences, attitudes and personality characteristics of dog owners and will be used to compare with the herding survey results.

This survey can be taken online at your convenience, is approximately 40 questions long and should take about 10 minutes to complete. You can find the survey at the following webpage:

http://intercom.virginia.edu/SurveySuite/Surveys/NonHerding

I ask that you please take this survey yourself and that you forward this email on to your breed association and any other dog owners you know who might be willing to participate. Responses will be completely confidential and only used for scientific purposes.

To get an accurate picture of the variety of experiences with dog ownership, it is vital to get as many participants for this survey as possible. I truly thank you so much for any assistance you can give. I couldn't do this research without people like you.

Sincerely ,

Karen M. Kostan
