At the show today, I had to buy our Frenchie a collar. While at the vendor a gentleman asked how we did. I said "We did well in Bulldogs but hadn't shown the Frenchie yet." A lady standing by him blurts out "You Bulldoggers need to step up your advertising!" As I was trying to figure out if she meant Dog News, or Dog Fancy..etc she continued, "There are people everywhere looking for Bulldogs and they have no alternative than to buy god awful quality from god awful places." So I replied, "As a fancy we generally try and keep our litters quiet." That "Many responsible breeders have waiting lists or place puppies through connections of previous puppy buyers." "That's it's generally kept quiet to keep it out of public circulation as there are too many people looking to get into Bulldogs for the money." To which the man scoffed"For the money?!" "What about all the vet bills!" "Bulldogs are train wrecks!" I started to correct this statement but could already see it was a lost cause. Jen is right...we have got to get behind the health testing of our breed and correct all this false information for our breed...
