The PETA Intrusion
PETAs attempt to influence and prevent the airing of Westminster on American National TV has angered even the producers of the film, which originally caused the problem in the British dog world between the BBC and Crufts. The filmmakers have no connection to PETA and are ideologically opposed to PETAs aims. The producer of the film specifically stated that he was horrified that PETA is using the film to further its own warped agenda. He claims his film is about animal welfare and not animal rights! Nonetheless these pages have little sympathy for either of the involved parties. The producer exaggerated his film in an attempt to label all breeders as uncaring producers of animals with serious health concerns. They relied on individual case examples which were merely anecdotal in reality. Instead of conducting a full-fledged investigation of all breeding practices, they generalized to a fault and came to many erronous conclusions. In their attempt to be sensational they represented a very small minority as being the majority. How else could they have sold this program to the BBC? And now, not only are they paying the price through PETA and its like but the very goals of their program have been both obstructed and defeated by PETA. That PETAs animal record is more than appalling it is shocking cannot be denied by even the Alec Baldwins of this world. PETA kills 97 percent of the dogs that come to its shelters and admits that its ultimate goal is to rid the world of what it calls the domestic enslavement of dogs as either pets or working dogs. PETA is nothing more than a bunch of crackpots who do not care about anything but publicity and making money. And unfortunately while all the denials of the film producers may be worthwhile, indeed they did nothing but encourage this kind of thinking when they relied upon anecdotal experiences as the basis for their film.
