That pedigree structure...

by

(Gawain's)... is an interesting one (dam of the sire is full sibling to sire of the dam). Titus' pedigree has the same structure.

It's also interesting that the sire and dam of Titus' 2 referenced grandparents were the result of a half-brother/half-sister mating (both sired by Goober).

Goober's pedigree was basically a series of outcrosses. I can't remember for sure, but you either have to go to the 4th or 5th generation before you see the same name twice. So both Gawain and Titus resulted from taking basically outcrossed dogs, inbreeding for 1 generation, outcrossing the results of the inbreeding and then line breeding back to the products of the inbreeding. (Much easier to convey when actually looking at the pedigrees.)

I don't see very many Breeders doing those kinds of breedings these days (Elizabeth being one of the few exceptions).

It does take generations to plan and execute, and I guess most of us either don't stick around that long, don't have the fore site to plan that far ahead or can't keep enough quality dogs in play in a breeding program to pull it off.

BTW - Ch Eskaidee Sir Percival of Poltava was an English import. So his breeding to Peaches was a total outcross, at least looking at the first several generations. Since she was line-bred Vardona, there could be some common ancestry further back as Dr Vardon seemed to actively use English bloodlines.

So when Cody bred littermates Ivanhoe and Pride to produce Yancey and Harvest, it was obviously extremely tight, but seems a little less drastic when you realize that Ivanhoe and Pride were the result of an outcross breeding.
