Another perspective on our breed

by

I have permission and want to share this email in regards to my post below. What I am looking for here are your thoughts on the Veterinary medicine clinics we have and where we are going to turn to from here...
Hi Jess,
Just wanted to say I agree wholeheartedly with your post. I, for one, have had enough. One of the things that has bothered me (and seriously affected me!) is the attitude "non-bulldog" vets have about bulldogs. We have taken some very young puppies as well as some older adult dogs/puppies to "emergency clinics" in the area because they were the only thing available, due to time of day/night, distance to travel to our regular vet, etc. In EVERY instance but one, we lost the animal!!! And why? Because our beloved pups or dogs were treated like alien beings. We had one vet look at a struggling puppy and say, "You know, these dogs shouldn't be bred!" We have been lectured on how we shouldn't be breeding bulldogs, the dogs have been misdiagnosed, and mis-treated (not treated badly, but treated WRONG!). It sickens me. And I believe that yes, many vet schools are teaching their students the "wrong and the right" of dog breeding, and our breed is definitely the poster child for WRONG! I am thankful to have a vet clinic that understands, welcomes and competently treats bulldogs. They don't make snap judgments and they seldom miss a correct diagnosis.
