California Bulldog pups for sale site....wow!!

by

Check out this link if you want to see some incredibly bad bulldog pups and very young ones at that. The disclaimer at the bottom of the page states that all the dogs avaialble are not necessarily from CA breeders, but a national network.
This is a store front for puppy mills.

Breeding rights.....

by

I even saw a novice breeder in Los Angeles that states the pups all come with AKC breeding rights.

Sounds like she's selling little income machines.

These are the sellers / buyers of pups that evcentually get the breed in trouble. They are selecting breeding dogs at 8 weeks old...
You don't see the Lakers scouting for ball players at the day care centers...so why do people sell fully breedable 8 week old dogs to idiots?

Dr. Butchko told me the other day that half of the novice breeders are losing more than half their litters through pure ignorance on how to even raise a dog. Think of all the suffering..
Then they sell the survivors way too young, unscreened, where the buyer may be getting a defective pup. In some cases, down the road they are used for breeding anyway.

We both know they are not...............

by Anonymous

Frenchy breeder I bought two dogs from has a simple contract to sell pets Limited Registration but you only get the papers and see the dog's AKC number until after the dog is spayed or neutred. That way no foreign registry can pick up the Limited Reg along with a pedigree, then registering the dog in their registry.

I never knew that a pedigree is all that's needed to satisfy those other registries, opening the whole breeding matter to possibly tainted lineage. I know they don't police their problems by doing DNA studies should the situation call for it to prove the lineage. It's breed away.............make money......

From these breedings come the shoa we all now face with people wanting to control what good breeders are already attempting to do.

*** WiLL GaBiE bE dA NeXt DoG STaR? ***

by

Sunday afternoon Gabe & I were down at the Seattle Dog Winterfest participating in the Next Dog Star Talent search, sponsored by Le Paws Dog Talent Agency from LA & the Seattle Dog Magazine. They are holding auditions in 8 cities around the country to find the dog who will be crowned "The Next Dog Star".

RideEmGabie_m

Gabie aced his audition as the two screening judges sat open-mouthed watching him perform, then was invited back for the finals in front of a live audience.

RockItGabie_m

They are looking for a dog who is talented (yup), good-looking & photogenic (uh-huh), able to work in distractions (check), a quick-learner (got it!) who can work well with people & other animals (yeppers), able to work from a distance (of course), doesn't have separation anxiety (not a hint), etc. etc.

StickEmUpGabie_m

So, Gabie took the Stage along with Ol' Sliver & did his DoG-N-PoNY show, wowing audience & judges alike.

Wave2DaCrowd_m

While no "winner" was selected at this point, we feel Gabe has a great chance to be among the Finalists invited to LA later this summer (tentatively in July) to attend a week-long workshop by the Le Paws Talent Agency & vie for the ultimate prize--the title of "The Next Dog Star"...this time winning a $10,000 cash prize, a new GM car, a contract with Le Paws, be featured on the cover of the Seattle Dog Magazine & have his likeness made into a "Paw-Parazzi" stuffed toy that will be sold around the world! (Can't you just see kids toting around the mooshy little cowboy Gabie doll? happy.gif )

MountUp_m

Besides his trademark horseriding routine, Gabe demonstrated some advanced obedience, with long-distance signals...

He couldn't resist "improvising" a bit & taking a bow!

LongDistanceBow_m

...but he DiD finally comply with the "down" on the second signal happy.gif

DownSignal_m

He demonstrated what a Gentleman he was...

Kleenex4Mom_m

...by offering his Mom a tissue when she sneezed.

HereYaGoMom_m

He brought his GabesteRoOter Pal, Ellen Whitney, a red rose (no photo of this one)...she was the one who had given us the tip that this contest was even going on--or we would have missed out on a wonderful opportunity.

***THaNks ELLeN!...and those others of you who've told us about The Fido Awards, the America's Funniest Bulldog Assignment America--and others who've given us other leads that we were unable to pursue due to timing and other issues...YoU guys are Da GRRrreatest!!!***

Then Gabie rode off into da SuNSeT on his SPoNGeBoB BOaRd, certain he had tweaked a few brains & left some BuLLy-siZed pawprints on da hearts of da gawking crowd!

GabeBoardin_m

There are 7 more auditions to go--the next one being held in March--and you can watch along with us to see whether Gabie gets yet another invite to HoLLyWoOF in the coming months. They will be posting updates on their site at:

NextDogStar.com

BUT...that doesn't mean we can forget about America's Funniest where Gabie's Video continues to RuLE as #1 ToP RaTed on the site! Come on by & do yer Daily VoTe-N-View today & we'll keep THAT option open as well for our Li'l CoWPoKE!

Introducing...

by

Let me tell you about this little girl. I had NO plans to keep this pup...but she stole my heart. Because she is so special to me, she had to have a special name. I searched my heart for the perfect name for my little girl...and I didn't have to look too far. I have a wonderful friend, Jen in FL, who has one of the most special girls in the world, too. Jen rescued Dixie, who had been in at least 4 other homes before she found her real home. Then, Dixie life changed...

2008 Nationals Excellent B Rally -

I love her Dixie's "rescue to glory" story so much that I really wanted to honor Dixie. So, without further ado...Here's my Dixie Chick...

Need help on Toxic milk...

by

Addie is due at the end of the month, this is her 2nd litter.

Her first litter all 9 pups became limp at day 5 and we almost lost all of them. We were told to pull the pups off mom because the milk went bad. They were all bottle fed and they all made it. Her first litter she had vaginitis with e.coli a week after she was bred and was put on Clavamox for 3 weeks. Two weeks before she was due we had kennel cough and she was put on Amoxicillin.
With this litter she hasn't had any problems. My question is can she have healthy milk this litter?
One of my show friends sent me this link, has anyone ever heard of it? I'm also concerned about the salt in the product....
http://www.redhillgeneralstore.com/A51856.htm
http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/839-Milkade.aspx

One more questions......My litter that the milk went bad before day 5 when I would go to feed them every two hours they would be completely wet.
My mentor had a litter a few months ago and her bitch had an infection and was passing it thru her milk to the pups. She lost 6 of the pups out of 10. When she would go to feed hers before pulling them off mom, hers were soaking wet also. We were thinking maybe the toxins were tying to get out of their bodies and that is why they were so wet. Has anyone ever experienced anything like that?

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.

Re: Need help on Toxic milk...

by

It's possible for mom to have normal milk this time, but of course be prepared for the worst. I had a litter of wet puppies before now that I think of it and one by one they died. I assumed it was part of herpes. If it is herpes, the pups will die there's no saving them. Sometimes their immune systems kick in and they'll pull through, but not very often.

Wet puppies

by

I myself have not had this, but I know over the years, Lillian Tiffany had a couple litters like that she was raising, not sure if hers, or sometimes she'd whelp other litters. I believe they would pull thru.

You might try giving her a call and ask her if there was anything special she did, etc.

This is interesting...

by Jaime Gerdes

Sara has had mastitis two times, BADLY! We caught it early both times, but we still ended up with chunky puss. The vet told me to take the puppies off the nipple. Well, having had it myself, I followed the same thing my doctor told me. I would milk out the curdled milk from her and then put the strongest puppy there to nurse. It worked.

Is "toxic" milk then different than mastitis milk? Isn't toxic when the PH is too high/low? Just curious.

Dirk Diggler, CHIC # & 2008 Rankings

by

I just wanted to brag that Diggler, owned by Ryan and Allora (co-owned by Linda and I), received his CHIC # of 54433 before the end of 2008 and also picked up a very nice Group 2nd at the San Mateo shows to put him into the Top 25 in All-Breed rankings for 2008.

I posted Final 2008 Rankings on BDW but apparently, they weren't updated completely (although they said they were processed through December 31!) with the final weekend of shows in San Mateo. Not Yet For Emmy

by

Patti,

I don't know how many of the dogs and bitches have their CHIC numbers. I'm sure we could all go and look at the database to see. My Emmy doesn't have hers yet. I had that appointment at Dr. Arn's during the Vegas specialty weekend but cancelled because we had to stick around for the group. I'll get her over to my vet and we'll get it done.

I know Shelly Jo and Smoke both have theirs already. It'll be interesting to see how many of the Tate kids can get theirs, although I don't see why they couldn't.

I have a new boy coming soon. He is a Tate son out of an Amos daughter, that herself, is out of a Nico daughter, if I'm not mistaken. I'm excited about him and of course, his pedigree. happy.gif I'm going to breed Emmy out, so I'll need something to go back to.

There is now 87 Bulldogs with CHIC numbers. We just need to keep promoting and talking about it. I just wish that the ones that have all the "top ranked" dogs would do it, too. Otherwise, when you try to explain to someone why it is important, they always point out how the top dogs don't have it, so it isn't important.

I myself have 5 kids here at home with their CHIC numbers. But they are only ranked in order of who gets to sleep in bed with us or get on the sofa first.

The FUN Starts NOW!!! Texas HB 458

by

January 7, 2009
The Texas Legislature convenes their 81st Regular Session on January 13th
and adjourns at the end of May. However bills are already being filed so
fasten your seat belts, this will be a rough year.

The Responsible Pet Owners Alliance's Board of Directors voted last night to
OPPOSE HB 458 filed by Rep. David Leibowitz from San Antonio relating to
"limitations on the number of dogs at a residence in certain counties."

The bill states:
"The commissioners court of a county with a population of one million or
more by order may limit the number of dogs that an individual may keep at a
residence located in a residential subdivision in the unincorporated area of
the county."
(Note this is unincorporated areas only. However it is a trend we don't
want to see established in our counties.)

The "residential subdivision" means a subdivision that is platted and
recorded in the county real property records; in which the majority of the
lots are subject to deed restrictions limiting lots to residential use and
that includes at least five lots that have existing residential structures.

A meeting will be scheduled with Rep. Leibowitz asap to ask him to pull his
bill, that we vehemently oppose it for the reasons listed below. Limit
Laws:
* Target all pet owners, regardless of the behavior of their animals.
* Are hard to enforce as pet owners will simply hide their pets.
* Cause a decline in the number of pets licensed and vaccinated for Rabies.
Bordering Mexico, there's always a Rabies threat in Texas and the primary
concern of elected officials should be that all animals are vaccinated for
Rabies.
* A person with one dog that runs loose or barks all night is a greater
nuisance than a person with a dozen dogs that are quiet, clean, and kept at
home. Numbers have no relationship to nuisances.

Please contact your legislators and tell them that you oppose this bill.
ALWAYS ask for the person in charge of legislation. If you don't know your
legislators, go to: www.capitol.state.tx.us/home.aspx and fill in the box at
the bottom "Who represents me?"

Then contact bill sponsor Rep. Leibowitz and politely ask that he withdraw
HB 458. Phone Austin: (512) 463-0269, Fax: (512) 320-0555 and/or Phone
San Antonio: (210) 372-0759, Fax: (210) 372-1405. Ask for the person in
charge of legislation.

Important Health Study Information!!!

by

To Bulldog Club of America Members:
The Canine Genetics Laboratory at Clemson University (recently moved from Texas A&M University) is soliciting samples from Bulldogs for a current project investigating two developmental disorders: spina bifida and cleft palate. Spina bifida is a condition in which the neural tube fails to close; cleft palate results from an incomplete closure of the hard palate, which separates the nasal and oral cavities.
Our study aims to identify candidate genes that may either cause the conditions or be involved in canine developmental patterning processes. Our ultimate goal from this work is to identify the mutation(s) causing closure defects in the bulldog. This would allow us to develop a genetic test that would enable early classification of affected dogs as well as detection of carrier dogs. Breeders would then be able to make informed decisions in their breeding programs and avoid these disorders from their breeding lines.
To accomplish these goals, we need your help. We need to collect samples from at least 50 affected (spina bifida and cleft palate) and 50 normal bulldogs.
The more samples we can accumulate will increase our chances of definitively identifying the gene(s) causing spina bifida and cleft palate.
These samples can be either blood or buccal (cheek) cells, with a preference given to blood. Most veterinarians are willing to draw blood for research purposes at no cost. Please contact Dr. Alison Starr (astarr@clemson.edu; 864.656.0191) for more information.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this study.

Sincerely,

Alison N. Starr, Ph.D.

Some questions/thoughts

by

It would be great to find some answer to this. I have printed out the info and will give it to my vet. I don't personally know of any SB dogs here, but he might. On the cleft issue, since puppies are then put to sleep after being born, I guess doing the swab at that time would be the only way, correct? And if you do have a cleft puppy born, wouldn't getting the DNA examples of the sire and dam be important, too, to show they must be a carrier?

However, I have another question on this. I thought it had always been said how important folic acid was when breeding, that a lack of that can cause these problems. That is why women need it too. If they are feeling that it is more a DNA genetic issue, and to identify the carriers, SB and clefts have been an issue with humans for the ages. Has there been, or is there, any studies/research with humans that would identify such a gene?

Very Interesting

by

I'm willing to bet that if they find some genetic basis for spina bifida in our breed, that it is a specific or semi-specific combination of genes that really facilitates the extreme expression of this problem.

I really don't hear much about clefts anymore (you would expect not to, because it's usually more obvious at birth and the issue is dealt with immediately, whereas often, spina bifida pups are taken home because it's not obvious right away). But I suspect that much fewer clefts are born due to the widespread understanding that a deficiency in folate can cause it.

Jay, this is your field, question

by

>>deficiency in folate can cause it.< <br>
Since it IS a known fact, then.....how does a "known" deficiency relate to a mutant gene or DNA issue??

Again, since this has for years been a human issue, too, what has been found with humans regarding a DNA marker?

Comparing Affecteds vs. Non-Affecteds

by

Patti,

Honestly, I haven't been following any newer developments in these fields for a while. In fact, whenever I see Ryan and Allora, I ask them what's new in the area as they work in a related field. I'm sure Naomi can also talk more about recent developments. But, your question is one reason why they need genetic samples from affecteds and non-affecteds to compare their genomes and see if there are any anomalies that differ and that could be related to these expressions of SB and/or clefts. I haven't looked up any literature about human clefts and the differences between a nutritional deficiency affected versus an inherited affected.
