Nylabones

by

A friend of mine owns pet supply company My new pup Halley loves to chew so went down to her place to get my Nylabones they are not hard ones I always get clear ones so I saw they had blue ones red bones green ones. I said I love blue how come they are in colors she said in past something happened where a dog broke off parts and swallowed . Vets when doing a Xray (the clear nylabones )could see the pieces as they were clear, if this stays in stomach they can die . If they break a big piece off it is like a plastic she said so company was getting to many complants alot from Vets as this product was a big seller so now makes them in colors so they will show up in a Xrays. ( Not a good sign)

My Bulldog chews on the same end over & over so we have gone to just milk Bones I threw out all my nylabones. I do not want a surgery. My friends dog was lucky he threw up undigested nylabone I think some call it a Gummybone but it is still a nylabone.

So be careful Kim

I don't...

by Jaime Gerdes

give my Bulldogs the gummy ones. Even small puppies can chew the ends off of those. We have had great luck with the hard ones. I figure no matter what, the Nylabone is better than the rungs off of my kitchen chairs..LOL. Seriously, I think Holly is part Beaver.

by

You know I agree she is a Beaver I have had many bulldogs threw the years I had given them these nylabones and never had a problem, took the bone away she ate the wood off our bedroom set & scared me as thought she swallowed the wood. So guess we will rename her Beaver. You know she is not a pup anymore as she is 3yrs old never had a dog this age with a chewing problem. Kim

Pretty funny!

by Jaime Gerdes

Holly will be two in a month, and there is no sign of her letting up. When we bought her mother, we were told she was a land shark. Well, she lived up to that name. After she weaned Holly's litter, she barfed up this horrible mixture of stuff... there was blanket parts, milk jug rings, a rubber band, part of my son's action figure... it was NASTY! I think Holly inherited part of the inclination to chew. Sara will still do it if she finds the right thing... the cable company has made probably a hundred dollars off of us buying their $5.00 remotes...one of Sara's favorites, and she is four. It's a good thing they are cute, as you will know

Warning about Squeek Toys

by

I wanted to warn you it ended up costing me surgery on a dog a while back. In the Squeeky toys they have a round plastic thing that makes the squeek are hidden inside the toy, my Jack Russell at the time hated the squeek and would chew it up till it quit squeeking well there is a metal wire on the very tip of this squeeky and it slit his gums open and he required 10 stiches. It looked like someone took a razor and slashed his gums.

On some of stuffed animals they have long arms & legs there were 5 of these squeeky in one toy. If any of my dogs get toys I cut these plastic things out Surgery was 400.00. Better to be safe than sorry as with Bulldogs all things are possible. Kim

Texas Animal Welfare Advocates Unite for Humane Candidates in Congressional
Races!

Dear Friend,
Voter Guide
The 2008 election is just around the corner, and advocates of animal
protection in Texas need to know who is standing up for their interests
in Congress. The Humane Society Legislative Fund is the non-partisan
political arm of the humane movement, and we want you to know who the humane
candidates are in the Texas congressional races.

The cause of animals is broad and bipartisan, and it attracts support from
all ends of the political spectrum. HSLF works with both Democrats and
Republicans who advance the humane treatment of animals. And we
support them in their elections, too, so they can continue to fight for
animal protection policies. In order to pass humane laws, we need to
elect humane lawmakers -- and we need to make tough choices in elections
when the stakes are so high for animals.

HSLF is a non-partisan organization that evaluates candidates based on two
overarching criteria: their viability and their stands on animal
protection policies. HSLF does not judge candidates based on party
affiliation or any other issue.

interesting, thanks for posting

by Sherri

it must of been nice to go over consistently nice heads. I always wondered if there was a correlation between wryness and incorrect jaw shape. Where there as many wry jaws there as we see here? It looked like they also had more consistently longer necks than we have here.
The dogs looked like they may have been a little larger overall?(their standard is 50/60 is'nt it?) There looked to be some high tail sets and really straight stifles, but its not like we don't have that here........
the ones that stood out, really stood out.

It was a joy to see so many wonderful heads in one place. Not many (if any)wry at all. Hard to say if there is a correlation but it does seem to me that you see more wryness in the jaws that do not turn up correctly. But that is purely anectodal.

Their standard is 50# for bitches, 55# for dogs. I was happy to see the amount of dogs that were correct size with a few exceptions. While in Holland I was alarmed at some of the giants entered there.
They had many of the same issues there as we have here, although less head faults over all, but more faulty ears than I expected in the general entry. They had a higher percentage of well set and correct straight tails there, but still had a few horrible ones too.
The old adage that we have the bodies and they have the heads isn't so true anymore. They now have the bodies too.

limping on front leg

by

Hello,

I have not been here in a long time but I was getting ready to make a vet appointment for our Bosco when I thought I would get an opinion here first. Bosco is 6 years old and has been a helthy little guy his whole life. For the last month or so he has developed a limp on his front right leg that has become worse the last few days. We noticed that his right paw is twisted outward more than the left, and when I feel his leg he gives no indication of pain anywhere from the paw up to his back. Has anyone had any issues like this? I plan to get him to the vet next week but sometimes its good to go into the vet with a little info from people with the same breed.

By the way Bosco came from a breeder in Central California named Gene Simmons, his father was a beautiful boy named Jammer and I cant remember his owners name but they were very nice people, does anyone know if Gene is still around?

Thank You,
Bob

clarification

by

the way the numbers came up on the first post is confusing.

The first number is the rank (among breeds)

second number is the number of evaluations

third number is the percent abnormal

fourth number is the percent normal

Elbow N/A 48 37.5 62.5

Where does it get us?

by

I think it is only fairly normal that most do not either send to OFA, or do not check the box for open registry, when they send something in to OFA if it does not pass.

But, where does it get us? At least we know WHO does pass. So if you then can use that for breeding decisions, that is over half the problem.

So, we must as breeders do our part in doing the testing, spread the word, and use the knowledge that we have for our breeding. Some testing, i.e., hips and elbows, even if they don't pass OFA, a breeder/owner should still have the knowledge and be honest when asked about their dog, stud, puppies and can show that dogs results.

Someone is trying to pick a fight

by

At least we have a team Jay! Have fun watching the last place Mariners and Seahawks!

Pistons are doomed to an eternity of being "best man". Serves Joe Dumars Right for picking Darko ahead of Bosh, Wade, and Melo.

Of course, I will still be rooting for the Lakers. Since you're a "bandwagon fan" and free to jump from one team to the next, the Hornets might be nice team to latch onto. They are a young and exciting team. CP3 is one of my favorite players. Portland has a nice young roster. Houston traded for Artest over the summer. If healthy, are a team to watch out for. Ultimately though, it will be a rematch of last year's Finals between the Lakers and Celtics.

Not even Shawn Kemp could have saved the Sonics

Yes, I Do Enjoy Picking 'Em Even From Way Back, Scott

by

Anyway, I have been a Pistons fan since the middle to late 1980's. That time period through like the middle 1990's was really when TRUE basketball was played - no ticky-tack fouls back then and no one was getting to the hoop, especially in the playoffs with a clear path.

Hopefully, your boy #8 or what, #24 now, keeps that knee healthy.

Speaking of bandwagon jumping, how long have you been a Lakers fan? Were you a Lakers fan post Magic and pre-Kobe? Or are you a Lakers fan only when they're a team with potential?

I agree

by

The game today is not what is used to be. The game is soft. I hate the new rules. I enjoy seeing someone get clotheslined every now and then. Players back then would come out of college with fundamentals but not so much today. The ridiculous guaranteed contracts also ruin the sport. A lot of content overpaid athletes.

Kobe's knee will be fine. It's not his injuries that usually give him problems. It's his "extracurricular activities" and "mouth" that usually do that!

Anyhow, I've been a Laker fan since "Showtime", the Sedale Threat, NVE, Eddie Jones, and Cedric Ceballos years, Shaq Lakers, and current team. Nice try though Jay.

No worries though, we'll find you a new team to root for. Hey, once you and Ryan get bounced out of the payoffs there's always MMA and Poker!

Playoffs???

by Ryan & Allora

Given the current state of the Warriors, just making the playoffs would be an accomplishment. The Western conference will be tough again...Portland getting better with a healthy Oden, New Orleans getting better with a year of playoff experience under their belts, Houston adding Artest should make them strong contenders and my pick out of the West this year. The key will be if Yao and T-Mac stay healthy. Here's to battling it out for the 8th and final playoff spot!

You guys

by

are better off tanking. I forgot the lowly Clippers signed away your best player. At least, tickets will be affordable again.

Looking at your photo album, you seem to be a big sports car enthusiast. There's always reruns of The Fast and the Furious "Tokyo Drift" on HBO . Personally, I prefer the original with Jordana Brewster and Vin Diesel.

Good luck with trying to make that eighth spot!

Back In The Day

by

Yes, I really miss Salley, Rodman, Mahorn and Laimbeer! Even Isiah had a good mean streak in him. I can't say that I don't miss Oakley, Anthony Mason, Robert Parrish and even the old Karl Malone and Alonzo. Of course, my main man, the Chuckster had a great confrontational persona too and threw down facials on the biggest guys despite his size. Now guys can just drive through the lane and enjoy themselves.

It's too bad Ben Wallace went to the Bulls because I think the Pistons/Celtics series last year would've been more interesting. Maybe if Chauncey had been his usual clutch self too.

Anyway, here's to good old animosity and rivalry and good hard fought 7 game series.

I saw

by

Charles Oakley in Vegas. The guy is HUGE! Ben "Wallets" stopped caring after he got paid. I've never seen a player decline as rapid as him and Shaq.

I hope we meet Detroit in the Finals. We match up better against them anyhow! We need to pay you guys back for that 04' 5 game sweep! Bastards!

O/T Upcoming NBA Season

by

So...

What's going to go down this season, ladies and gentlemen? I haven't decided whom I will cheer on since we don't have a team right now. I threatened my FIL that I was going to buy him a "Thunder" shirt while I was in OKC this last month! LOL Couldn't someone have come up with a more creative name? But I'm not hatin'.

Of course, I am always behind my Pistons though I realize their limitations.

Who's going to be ROY? Who's going to be the sleeper?

Jay

P.S. Beat L.A.!

You mean like this Jay???

by Ryan & Allora

I am probably not going to hear the end of it from Allora since she was born and raised a Laker fan, but here you go...the shirt I was wearing during the NBA finals last year! BEAT L.A.!!!

It might be a rough year for my Warrior's with Baron taking off for Hollywood (out 4-6 weeks because of an injury...karma?) and Monta's ankle injury because of a stupid moped. Oh well, they should still be fun to watch!

Best Buddies, the "Odd Couple"

by

No way to get good pictures on the floor, they are always playing. So, I tried putting Dusty and Jasper on the sofa, where there were more attentive to me, for some pictures.
What's That??

Oh, you want us to look at YOU?

OK kids, let's do it like in school, the taller one in the back.

But MOM... his ear is in my face!

Now his OTHER ear is in my face!

PERFECT.... SMILE !!

Jay, they are such buddies

by

That's why it is hard to get a picture of them together. On the floor, or in the yard, they are running, wrestling, mouthing, etc.

Jasper is a permanent bed partner at night...His place is on my pillow between my head and the wall. Cutter "allows" that, as he lays down by our feet.

Good seeing you, and good luck with Emmy. Sure like that girl.

Also, which is not great for taking pictures, the leather sofa is almost the same color as them. They are also the same color as Boss, and the three of them go out together and play. I've got to try to get a picture of that. I call it, "Small, Medium and Large"
