Trachea x-rays - Information

by

I know it has been asked "how" OFA is measuring the tracheas for the study for Bulldogs. I only know how my vet has done it for years, with radiologists telling him. With the OFA study, they want two views. This is for two different measurements. But the one is the same way my vet has done it for years. Now, with digital radiology equipment, it makes it even easier, as there is a measuring tool on the program that can give you the exact cm. But, even with x-ray film, you can learn to judge it for yourself.

Also, I know many Bulldoggers will go by what size tube was used when their Bulldog was put under for surgery. I know a few years ago the BCA health committee tried to do a study using this method. But it was ill-advised, as you can see from these pictures, a trach tube does not really go down that far. It is important to see the entire trachea. I have seen x-rays over the years where a trachea starts off wide, but then narrows or pinches down further. It is these kind of problems you don't want to use in a breeding program. It is this kind of problem that lots of times is a problem why a puppy or adult gets continued pneumonia and respiratory issues.

I hope these pictures give a better idea of what it is you are looking for and why it is important to x-ray the tracheas on your Bulldogs. And the Bulldogs do not have to be put under, in fact they are NOT to be put under for this x-ray. And, in doing this x-ray, for your own knowledge, please also submit it to OFA for the Bulldog trachea study. Hopefully in the future we can have some kind of "grading" that will help us more in breeding decisions.
Below is an x-ray of a one year old. I have marked with lines the two areas that you measure: The width of the trachea and the width between the dorsal ribs.

Below is an x-ray of a 7 week old puppy. This is why I advise always having the trachea x-rays done with the vet checks. You will then know if you have a good trachea, or if it is on the smaller side, you then make your decisions on who is kept or used for breeding and who is placed as a pet with a spay/neuter contract.

I was just at my bulldog vet's today asking about them doing the OFA certs for Gabe...they've done lots of the OFA testing, but not for tracheas. I'll pass on this info to them! Thanks!

Don't forget that BCA is helping fund this study

by

For the first 100, (which we are no where close), you do not have to pay the OFA fee that is on the application, BCA will pay that. Also, go to the BCA-Health site and download the form to send in with your bill to get $50 refund on the cost of the x-ray.

Excited Here

by

As the breeding rookie that I am, I find myself in that exciting, what's done is done, time when you know your girl took and you're just waiting.

Cynder (Ch. Validus Pacific Cry Me A River) is pregnant! Here's hoping that I can have something to show proudly in the Bred-By class. I really enjoyed that class.

Jay

P.S. I've had people waiting so any potential puppies are all spoken for, in case anyone is thinking I'm p_mping puppies.

Thanks for the well wishes, guys! I wanted to use frozen but the timing made me use my back-up dog. Here's the pedigree - I am VERY familiar with the dogs in it. It's a mix of many of my favorite dogs that I've loved as pets alone. We'll see what happens, it's just exciting though.

Choices

by

I'm completely interested in how this will work too, Vicky! I've been discussing this breeding with a very successful breeder-judge from another breed that is interested in one of these puppies (she comes with her own very successful handler too!) and the whys and why nots of it. We talked about the reasoning behind it versus one of the "great studs" out there and the "ranked" dogs too.

I am so excited to breed Emmy too. I'm trying to get my hands on the dog to breed her to. I've been asked a steep price, but we'll see what comes of it.

Yes, Benny showed a couple of times this last month but we're putting him away again for another year. He'll look better then - there's no sense in letting him lose to whatever and spending money when it's not time yet. Actually, I think he'll look his best in two more years but we'll see how he's coming along next year.

For all of those that thought the Gutted AB 1634 wasnt a bad Deal!

by

If by chance you might have thought that we were fighting AB 1634 for nothing less than a good fight please read the following. This can be readily applied to our continuing fight against bad Dog Legislation.
Ward

I especially like the last line........a quote by Thomas Jefferson.

How To Catch Wild Pigs! ...
There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat -- then you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time. One should always remember: There is no such thing as a 'free lunch'!
A politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do yourself. If you see all of this wonderful government 'help' as a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the 'free ride' is essential to your way of life, then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut! In this very important election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you -- just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America .

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have." -- Thomas Jefferson

inside account from the capitol Friday

by

AND IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY< PLEASE E_MAIL: AND CALL YOUR SENATOR TO SAY THANK YOU

FWD:
Before the overwhelming vote in opposition to AB 1634, I was hanging out outside of the Senate chambers with Mark Hennelly, CHfC, COHA, and Ed Worley, and Paul Payne, NRA. There were about 100 other lobbyists in the hallway too. When AB 1634 came up and Senator Padilla started his speech about the AKC, my cell phone started to blaze. The messages were something like: "DO SOMETHING!!!

As I started to contact senators on the floor, Chris Wagaman, on Senator Correa's staff showed up with the flier off the AKC website. At about the same time another staffer from Senator Dave Cox's office came running up with his copies of the AKC flier. Both said, "you know, as soon as Padilla opened his mouth, our phone lines lit up like crazy".. They assumed the same was happening in every senator's office. Both rushed into the Senate chambers to distribute the fliers. (Lobbyists, by the way, cannot go into those chambers). But, this shows the behind the scenes support we were receiving from senators' staff. There are a lot of dog and cat people working in the capitol.

When Chris came out, she said she spoke directly with Padilla, who told her, "No, the AKC is neutral, this just means they are upset with Levine, not AB 1634." (Wrong!). I remember Senator Lou Correa's comments when he visited with us and Lassie in the hallway a month earlier. Correa: "whats the bill number?" Lassie: "Its AB 1634." Correa; "who's carrying it?" Lassie: "Lloyd Levine". Correa; "oh sh#@ not HIM?" as he walked away with a disgusted look. That was my first clue, Correa might not vote for AB 1634.

I had been saying we needed 6 Democrats, and I counted 10 who I thought might vote "No". My original picks were, of course all 15 of the Republicans, with only Maldonado as a question mark---but not much of one. In the Dem column I picked Correa, Ducheny, Florez, Migden, Oropeza, Scott, Calderon, Kuehl, Steinberg and Yee. Well, as you know I was wrong. We didn't pull 10, We got 13. And we got Calderon, Kuehl and Steinberg to abstain, which were "No" votes.

On the first go around, I think we picked up 5 or 6 Democrats. When Senate pro Tem, Perata and Migdon from San Francisco, voted our way on the first vote, I knew we had this bill beat. But, we had to wait an anxious hour for the vote to be lifted. Senator Padilla was the only Democrat to talk on the bill while on the Republican side, Dutton, Cox and Runner got up to speak against it. I was very pleased with Cox, 'cause I recognized a number of my talking points that he covered. Its always nice to find out they really listen.

During the wait Chris would come out with news; like: "Lowenthal and Simitian are coming off the bill!" As the hour waned, the news kept getting better. Finally, after what turned out to be a very long hour they called for the absentees. Thats when we ended up with 27 ayes and 5 no's.

You cannot imagine the elation and satisfaction I felt at that time. What blew me away were Kehoe not voting and Ridley-Thomas changing his vote from "Aye" to "No." Both had been staunch allies of Lloyd Levine.

Following the vote, I met with Kelley Moran and his two German Shepherd dogs on the North lawn. While we talked Jeff Leacox, the AKC lobbyist came out, so we asked him what gives with AKC? His answer? "There was nothing wrong with AB 1634!" "It would not have harmed breeders!". I asked him what as all about this so-called 12th amendment, but then his phone rang and he mumbeled something and left.

The two NRA lobbyists took Mark and me to lunch to celebrate. There has been some questions about the NRA, but I have to tell you, these guys have been with us from the very beginning and like PetPAC never waivered. The other group are the hunters, especially the California Houndsmen for Conservation. Every time AB 1634 came up in committee a herd of these gentlemen showed up.

From the very beginning I have been saying if we are to defeat the AR's, we will need a coalition made up of all types of dog and cat people. Thats why PetPAC isn't called DogPAC. In a little over a year ago, we started with three of us, and we have grown to 45,000, dog and cat owners and clubs from throughout the breeding, working, police K9, service, hearing impaired, hunting, sporting and non-AKC community, as well as many cat clubs and of course the support of CFA. And before you think this is a PetPAC commercial, Please remember, I have always included the thousands of individual dog and cat people who have fought tooth and nail (forgive the pun) to kill AB 1634.

I even mentioned to the NRA guys, that for 25 years I represented law enforcement officers and unless legislation had something to do with their golf game, I could never field many to help. That is not true with the pet community. I plan to wax eloquently at a later time, but please know I am thrilled to have been working with everyone.

And for the record. let me just tell you, there will be no "good parts of AB 1634" that will survive next session.

I have a brag!!

by

Just got home from the vet, having Boss's hips x-rayed for OFA. We knew they looked good at 1 year, when we did his patella, cardiac, spine and trachea. But they have to be 2 years old to do their hips for OFA. Well, they are the best I've seen. they are better than his mom, Sheezam, who is OFA certified on her hips. So I can't see why his won't come back OFA.

Here are Sheezam's hips, to show a comparison

And he is a pretty, boy, besides.

If Boss passes, which he certainly should, he would be my 4th Bulldog I've bred that was OFA on the hips.

I fully realize most aren't, as with the majority of the bullies I've had. But, I feel it is an important goal to strive for. I've had numerous ones that were pretty darn close, that my vet thought should have. And, over the years, I've had some that weren't the best, but then I bred to one that was good, in hopes of bettering it.

I am going to see if my vet can copy some good hips from another breed, and then some poor bulldog hips, just to show as an education thing. I know there is much debate on how OFA does this. But, they really do judge breed to breed. When my vet took me to the computer to look at the digital picture, there were some hips that were on the screen. He said how do those look... I said WOW.....he laughed, and said, well, those aren't Boss's.... Then changed the file to his. Of course, his still looked damn good, but still not the same as the other one. And of course, I've seen some thru the years that literally, the femur head was totally outside the socket. And, with the dog you really wouldn't have realized it, because of the muscle mass.

Although some can debate whether HD is genetic or what, I feel that like other virtures of the Bulldog we breed for, good heads, toplines, tailsets, etc, if we breed like to like enough, we get what we want.

Nice!

by

Patti,

That's great! It will be interesting to see what grade OFA gives him. You would think from looking at his x-rays and his dam's that he would "move up" a grade from what she received.

Its got to be nice to be able to get digital copies of x-rays. We still use a machine that is literally from the Korean war. It actually takes very good pics, but far from any digital capability.

BTW - Div IV will be giving out the 1st Platinum level Ambassador for Health award at our banquet next year. One of our member's bitches received all 5 eligible OFA certifications (Hips, Elbows, Cardiac, Patella and Thyroid) recently. I was excited when the application came in. Hopefully people will start seeing more and more results like that, and yours, and won't be so hesitant to get their own Bullies tested.

Congrats again,
Dan Bandy

I just love the fact that my vet has the digital machine. I go home with a CD copy for myself. So I have them (for the last few years) on all my dogs of their hips, elbows, trachea and spine. And, I do the trachea on all my pups with their vet check, just to know how they are at that time.

That is wonderful on the one dog you are mentioning. Anxious to know who that is. They certainly should receive recognition.

By the way, you can scan an old fashion x-ray to a jpeg. It isn't the "best" quality, and you might have to play around with the scanner settings, but I have done that in the past, before my vet got his new machine.

PS, regarding Thyroid

by

While I had Boss in, and went ahead and had his thyroid done. But then in talking to my vet, asked regarding it... He said that a lot of vets/schools feel that the Thyroid test should not be done till the dog is at least four years old, and are trying to get OFA to change it.

Reason is, most autoimmune disorders don't show up till a round four years of age, that it takes that long for the body to develope it.

Your thoughts on it?

Thyroid

by

Patti,

I probably don't have enough experience/information to have a strong opinion about the timing and accuracy of thyroid testing.

I've tested 5 of my own dogs. Of those, only 1 has come back as within the normal range on all 3 parts of the test and received OFA certification.

3 had normal T4 and TSH but their TgAA came back as equivocal. My understanding is that elevated TgAA is considered a possible indicator for future auto-immune related thyroid issues.

Since 3 dogs in the same family looks like a pattern to me, I contacted an endocrinologist at Michigan State about it. What I took away from our conversation was that the test used to detect TgAA is not highly specific in his opinion and that other antibodies in the subject's system might cause a cross reaction. I asked specifically if he would recommend removing a dog with equivocal results from a breeding program and he did not. His recommendation was to monitor the individuals for clinical signs of thyroid disease and make breeding decisions based on that.

So far I have not had a dog that has shown any clinical signs of thyroid disease and I have never had one that needed thyroid supplementation.

So, that obviously says to me that the thyroid certification process isn't a perfect science. My take at this point is to continue testing my dogs, but as with some of the other tests, not take a failure to receive certification as an automatic requirement to never breed the dog.

Dan, that is interesting

by

Although I've been a big supporter of most health testing, I do have my reservations on CERF and Thyroid. I've read up on the thyroid issue, too, and one vet presented a paper at a conference a year or os ago also feeling it is not a good test. Too many variables that can cause a "negative" temporary result. And now, with my vet telling me that any actual autoimmune disorders (thyroid related) don't really surface till a dog is at least 4 years of age, makes me wonder all the more about the value of the thyroid testing.

have you ever noticed any correlation between puppies with the turned out/backwards legs at birth and weaker hips at maturation? (I'm having a section today, and was thinking about this thread and all the things you think about with an upcoming section and this question came to mind)

Re: Patti, I have a question........

by

I have seen and am aware about the backwards rear legs, but I don't believe I've ever experienced it. At least right now, my memory says no.

However, I do like to see when Pups can get on their rear legs, standing up on the fencing or something, from an early age. That does seem, to me, to be a good indication of good, strong, tight hips.

However, what I'm shooting for is the goal..... but keep in mind, there are degrees that won't pass OFA, but are still DARN good for a bulldog, probably in the top 10$%, and will have a very good, sound rear. Even if you use that as a goal, then you will start consistantly get better hips.

Again, I am going to see if I can get more samples, of other dogs, from my vet, that better describes all this.

What you will have, when they are less than "perfect", is more changes of arthritic changes/spurs, etc because of the poor fit, and as the dog gets older, a senior, you will see more severe stiffness and arthritis issues.

Now, for some that say about a pup's hips making a clicking/popping sound, sorry, but that to me is not good. X-ray and see....I'm willing to bet they are not that good. Sure, muscle mass and keeping weight off, will help as they mature. But I've also seen where young dogs, puppies, really have severe dysplasia, with literally no hip socket. YES, those are ones that need hip surgery, and for those that advise, "oh, that's a bulldog"...that is b.s.

I have some info here....

by Jaime Gerdes

I wish my friend who owns this pup would post, but I know she is too shy. One of our puppy owners bought a puppy from us who was born with upside-down feet. They were concerned about his hips (because of his superman/frog laying down position and the fact that they met him when his feet were still slightly turned). Anyhow, they had his hips x rayed a couple of times to ensure that all was well, and it was!

Registered Name: (New) Ch. SB&K Criminal Intent Of Wolfpit
Sire: BIS Ch. Kinloch's Royal Troon CD ME

Don't be jackin my ideas!

I've been meaning to get your opinion on these little guys. Ed mentioned you used to show them. We put a deposit on a mini before we ever got our first Bulldog but I guess the breeder was taking deposits before she had any puppies. Needless to say that never worked out for us. I was looking into a secondary breed and have always wanted a Mini BT! I have a buddy in Utah whose vet is a well known BT breeder and judge. I'm hoping he might be able to help me locate some reputable breeders.

What are your thoughts and experiences on the Mini BT's? I think they're hilarious but I'm also aware they can be a hand full and also aware of some of the breed related health issues.

Re: Well

by

I think the natural progression for a lot of Bulldog breeders looking for a secondary breed is to gravitate towards the Frenchies because of their size and familiarity. From what I've seen and as you mentioned they can be a little wound up, often times instigators. I can't say for sure most of them are like that but from what I've seen a good deal are. That type of energy can definitely destabilize an even tempered pack. I first thought about the Frenchies because I thought the transition would be an easy one for me but in a way I wanted something totally different also. The size discrepancy is a welcome change. I was looking for something smaller in size that would be easier to maintain and more travel friendly.

With the Manchesters I like the size and versatility. They can do agility and there's even one that does weight pulling events. A lot of dog in a small package. I like the elegant lines, sleek coat, and carriage of these little dogs. Yeah, they look "kinda fragile" but if you're talking about the toy breeds I really DON'T have that much to choose from! Most others are fluffy that look best with colored bow ties.

The third breed I was looking at are the Mini Bull Terriers. My ideal choice but there are drawbacks, same with every other breed. They do shed a lot like Bulldogs do. I'm concerned about the energy level which might be off the charts. I had a Boston that just passed away at age 15. This guy was revved up like a race car so I'm not unfamiliar with the Terriers. Finding a healthy quality mini might be not be that easy. I guess we'll see.

Cairns

by

Patti,

As with every breed, it really depends on the individual. The ones I've shown have been very sweet. They are terriers and can be very dominant with other dominant breeds but again, if they respect you and you ask them to knock it off, I've found that they will. I'm also showing an Am Staff bitch right now and I can let the Am Staff, the Cairn, the Pug and the Frenchies out together without any problems. However, the Bulldogs go out with other Bulldogs only.

There are a few Cairns though that can be nasty and you can tell easily if they are, especially when the judge spars them in the ring. The bad ones will break into aggression versus just showing off. But we all know that there are also awfully aggressive Bulldogs in the ring too that are also being bred.

UPDATES

AB1634 failed to get the votes need to pass today. Bill author Loyd Levine asked for and received consideration however.

That means that when senate reconvenes next week, he can ask for a new vote. AND it gives him time to work on the senators he needs to vote yes.

While the odds of him convincing enough senators to change their minds is slim, he also has all those who abstained to work on too. Can he get 16 more votes? That's a tall order BUT expect him to call in Wayne Pacelle of HSUS and probably Bob Barker who got the vote cleared last year in the assembly.

SO it is a great time to celebrate BUT maybe keep the champagne on ice until we get it totally and completely dead next week. And yes, a few more calls and faxes will be needed. We need to THANK in a big way the senators who voted against the bill, Thank those who abstained from voting with and encourage a continued lack of support or gentle urging to vote NO the next round and keep working on the others.

According to CalChannel this was the vote:

aye (5): Alquist, Machado, Negrete McLeod, Padilla, Torlakson

not voting (8): Battin, Calderon, Cedillo, Kehoe, Kuehl, Steinberg,
Vincent, Wiggins

the rest (27) were no.

Thank you

Jennifer Joseph
BCA DivIII Legislative Coordinator
the following are update/alerts from AKC and NAIA

This morning, California Assembly Bill 1634 was considered by the California State Senate. After an initial vote of five in favor and 18 opposed, the bill was put "on call." Because the bill's floor manager, Sen. Padilla, did not have votes to pass the bill, this legislative procedure allowed the leadership to call this bill for another vote before the end of the day's session.

Throughout the first consideration of the bill, Sen. Padilla incorrectly stated several times that AKC was neutral on AB 1634. AKC's staff contacted Sen. Padilla's staff after his floor statements and reinforced AKC's opposition.

Later, on call, the California State Senate voted 5-27 against Assembly Bill 1634. However, this is not the end of AB 1634. The bill has been granted "Reconsideration" pursuant to Senate Rule 43, which means it can be brought up for another vote next week.

The American Kennel Club continues to oppose Assembly Bill 1634, and encourages all California residents to contact their state Senator and urge them to vote no on the bill when it is reconsidered. (To find your California State Senator, click here.)

Please return to www.akc.org for the latest developments regarding CA AB 1634.

Dear Jay,

The USS Lloyd has been hit, its listing, and people are abandoning ship!!

This morning, the California State Senate voted resoundingly against AB1634. The final vote was over 20 ayes and 5 nays. Be sure to call your senator today and thank them for their no vote on this costly and irresponsible legislation.

However, the rules allow proponents to bring the bill up one more time, and members can switch their votes, so it is important that we keep the pressure on. Assembly Member Levine has already asked for reconsideration when the Senate meets next week.

Your hard work and advocacy have gotten us this far, so let's all be sure to deliver the final blow that officially sinks this ship!

Thank you!

Dusty

by

She's looking good, Patti. She has beautiful pigment and nice clean, tight feet. I think she looks very typical of that line - a good mix with yours.

Jay,

Did you see my post that I think Dusty needs to reserve a date with your Cal in a year or two? I think they'd complement each other nicely.

Time Will Tell

by

I agree that they could complement each other well, Patti. Let me get him here safely and let him mature and then we'll take a good solid look at them both. I'm working on bringing in two other dogs in the next year that could help with what I'd like to do. I want really good heads, with good bodies and movement and tight pedigrees to outcross to. We'll see what we can come up with.

Thanks Jess

I'm happy with her. It is just a wait and see. But she sure is a character, lot's of fun. Now her big thing is being the "big BUG hunter". When you take her out front, her nose is to the ground, in the grass or watching the sidewalk, for ANYTHING that moves.

Fun

by

That would be fun! I tried to watch your crew in action at the last National's but Brennen was a little fussy and I didn't want to distract anyone. There's quite a few new dogs in this area doing OB and rally...I think you would have a ton o fun

by

if all goes well! Where in CA are you? (we'd be coming to LA) Chubbs' boy, Bailey is down there & is quite a nice, little worker, but was out of commission for a while with an injury...he should be back at it this fall to finish up his CD! We also have lots of friends from the Bully Performance Group down there

Northern Ca...it's been a while since I've seen Bailey out. He's with Jane right? October is our specialty, so I thought maybe you were coming out for the shows We see Betty Fisher quite a bit at the AB ahows, but we don't know her.

Yep, Jane & Bailey...

by

...last I heard she was planning on getting him back out in the fall. He was off his game the past few times out--but is capable of some TERRIFIC work! He got a 195.5 (out of a possible 200!) in a practice match one of his first times in the ring. Should get that CD finished up soon!

We had a blast with some of the California Performance folks at nationals last year--Ikuko also had her two there. You ought to consider joining the fun! Rally is a wonderful way to get your feet wet!

UPDATE> please read. AB1634 probable to be brought up tomorrow

by

tonight and tomorrow AM are probably Last Chance to make a difference in the Senate

If it passes there, it'll be back in the assembly which already green lighted it once, AND THEY CAN RE-AMEND IT AGAIN TOO TO ADD BACK IN ALL SORTS OF NASTINESS

So please, help kill this thing?

Forward from PetPAC, California Federation of dog clubs. Please note that the Farm Bureau, Cattlemens Association and the State Chamber of Commerce are active in the fight. It really is that important. Please take 5 minutes tonight and tomorrow morning to phone and fax your state senator, and pass it along.

FWD:

We are down to the cuticle of our finger nails. If you have anything you want to impart, you better go for it now.

I also spoke with Mark Hensley today. Mark represents California Houndsmen for Conservation, a hunting group. CHfC and PetPAC have been working closely together these past months. Mark is sending new opposition letters which include opposition from the Farm Bureau, the Cattlemens Association, & the State Chamber of Commerce. All opposed!

Bill Hemby

Mark from COHA says the Senate is done for today and will reconvene
at 10 am tomorrow

He thinks it very likely will be taken up tomorrow
He says do remember that if it gets voted down the first time, Levine
can ask for a second vote - so it is not over until the 2nd vote IF
it is voted down to start with. We HAVE to keep the pressure up
through the 2nd vote in that eventuality.
Of course if it passes it goes to the next stage - back to the
Assembly for a vote there.

Please spend this evening faxing and calling the Senators - leave
messages on their answer machines
It is very likely that this evening is all the time we have left
DO NOT LET UP

Forward at will

Fiona
