Hey guys, stopping by your senator's office is easy
by
And one of the BEST things we can all do over the next few weeks
Do not be intimidated. Chances are you will see an aid. Ask if the Senator or district legislative person is available, Hand them a copy of your letter and a few more if you can round them up.
This office and the elected officials within are supposed to WORK for YOU on YOUR behalf.
Be polite and calm but firm. If you are in a democratic district and you are a democrat, let them know they may LOSE you and your FAMILY and FRIENDS over this sort of legislation as the democrats in the Ca legislature are not giving their constituents a say or chance to have one.
If your a republican or independent, let them know you are open minded and vote your conscience not blindly along party lines and that you will be watching what goes down with this bill carefully.
If possible get a group together to go and then grab some lunch!
And PLEASE CALL and let them know the same. Call the Capitol and each district office for your senator
Don't forget to enter the Olympic Kennel Club back-up shows in Enumclaw on August 15-16. Entries close next Wednesday, July 30. BCGS is supporting the entry and we're anticipating majors.

AB 1634 will face its final hurdle in the California state legislature
over the next few weeks. The bill was "gut amended" in June into a
different bill, one that on the surface appeared to remove many
objections. Unfortunately the new AB 1634 is arguably worse than the
old bill. If Californians don't seriously step up the response, this
bill will soon pass the California state legislature. If the governor
doesn't veto it will become illegal to own an intact dog or intact cat
in California.
As Assembly member Levine explained in his testimony before the Senate
Local Government Committee several weeks ago, AB 1634 makes owning an
intact dog or intact cat a "secondary offense", analogous to the seat
belt law which made driving without a seat belt a secondary offense.
Make no mistake about what this means. It means that owning an intact
dog or cat will be illegal in California, no exceptions. No
exceptions for registered purebreds. No exceptions for dogs or cats
owned by responsible breeders. No exceptions for police dogs,
search-and-rescue dogs, detection dogs, hunting dogs, working farm and
ranch dogs, or any other dog. There are no longer any exemptions or
ways to obtain intact permits in AB 1634. All that was removed when
the bill was gut amended.
Furthermore, the primary offense that activates the fines and
sterilization mandate in AB 1634 includes "complaints" -- mere
allegations that need not be valid or proven. Your neighbor can
complain that your intact dog was in his yard, and even if you can
prove the allegation was untrue, even if no one believes the
allegation, you can still be fined or ordered to sterilize your dog.
Mr. Levine used this very example in his committee testimony.
AB 1634 will be voted on in the full California State Senate sometime
between August 5 and August 31 (the deadline). It already passed the
Assembly.
The State Senate is not receiving as much opposition to the new AB
1634 as they had about the previous versions. I have spoken with
Senate staff and heard this message. I am seeing only a small
fraction of the response that we had last year. Your letters, faxes,
and emails sent last year don't count anymore.
If Californians don't seriously step up the response, this bill will
pass the California state legislature. We managed to stop the old
bill and can stop this one. We cannot stop it with well-reasoned
arguments alone. It doesn't work that way. We can stop it if those
arguments come from tens of thousands of Californians. If you own an
intact dog or intact cat in California, if you want responsible dog or
cat breeding to continue in California, or if you just don't like the
idea of the state government declaring all intact dogs and cats
illegal, then please take action now. There is no longer any time to
wait.
Ways that you can take action are on the home page of the Save Our
Dogs website. http://saveourdogs.net/
Some of them only take a few minutes of your time (a brief phone call
to your state senator's office and a customizable email using NAIA's
capwiz that already has major objections for you to select). The most
effective thing you can do is to visit the district office of your
state senator and discuss your objections.
Be a part of the process! Stop this BILL!!! It doesnt take more than a few minutes to compose and send a fax, email or letter to the Senators of the State of California. I've done it and I'm in Texas! Flood the Senators offices with OPPOSITION!!!

If I could have (had the room and all), I would have loved to have kept both. But I know Candy will do well with Cathy. But I don't see how we'd be at the same show.
It will be fun to see how these girls mature out and do.

Thanks Ma! I love ya!
Don't mention it, Son...I'm here for ya!
People can go to the link below and cast ONE VOTE PER DAY through the end of August, when four semi-finalist winners will be selected. In September, people will then vote to determine the one winner in each category...and those winners (one from each of the six categories) will be flown to LA for a live, 2-day TV awards show (with a top prize valued around $20,000).
If you are attending the Nationals and have not made any type of reservations for anything, and/or are staying with someone else and don't have a hotel room in your name please email me.

*** CiRCLe da WaGoNs GaBesTeRoOTeRs!!! IMPORTANT Worldwide Fido RULES! ***
by
I keep checking around for updated info on the contest, and last night they finally had some more specific rules/dates and other helpful info. The bad news is that (as would be expected!) they will only count ONE VOTE per UP address per DAY...so the majority of his "views" thus far (albeit from amazingly Enthusiast Followers!) will NOT count! The good news is that we have till the end of August to make up for it.
Most of the competitors have pitifully low views--under 100--but there are a half dozen who had a HUGE headstart on us & have from 7,000 to 19,000 "views". There's no way of telling at this point how many are "valid" & I suspect that some of the top dogs have also "loaded the ballet box" a time or two (especially for a few days around the time that Gabe was shooting by the forerunners!...some of their numbers jumped suspiciously quickly )
To get the most votes for Our Boy, we need to pass on the link & get as many "devotees" as possible to throw those Daily Bones! So...Pass it on!
Another possible plan...I CAN enter Gabe in one or more of the other categories--which have WAY less views than the Best Trick category. But this would mean having to go to different links to cast votes in the multiple categories. I think my son has a cute vid of Baby Gabe attacking the camera (or barking at it), so I could even use a different video. What say? (up to this point I figured it was best to focus on one & consistently vote for that one...) Right now, we just have to be among the TOP FOUR in a category to make it to the semi-finals (which runs Aug 31 through the end of Sept) The trip to LA will take place in the first week of October.

Just got these fun photos (with more on the way) of Moxie from her last agility trial where she earned a 2nd place & finished her Novice Agility Preferred title. Moxie earned her CGC at 5 months, has one leg towards her CD & two legs of her Rally Novice title, as well as 1 point from her only week-end in the breed ring. We're pretty proud of our girl!
Moxie weaving like a maniac!
Tipping the teeter...
...and flying over the winged bar jump with grace!
(Bea has Moxie slimmed down to pursue her agility career and will beef her up again in a year or two to hit the breed ring!)
What a gal!

And, I don't know if you've heard, but Gabe is leading the pack in the contest for Nick at Nite's Worldwide Fido He came on late in the game, but quickly passed up the top-runners in his category for online votes. The network decided to extend the contest through the end of August before the semi-finalist voting begins, so we've got a while to go yet (it was supposed to be finished by now and the winning dogs in each category flown to LA the end of the month--now that won't happen till the fall), but it's looking good!
You can cast your daily vote for him at this link:
The FLYBALL Bulldog http://flyballdogs.com/photos/glory
I remember at the nationals in Ontario, CA. 1996 with Glory doing her thing. It was a thrill to watch her.
I know they finished Glory when she was a little over 9, YEP 9. At a back-up show in Washington. They kept her weight down so she could FLY.
Good luck to you and your impressive bulldogs. It's takes a lot of time and patience to keep them "doing there thing". It's GOOD for the BREED!

Irvine, Calif. - "Just bought a brand-new purebred puppy? Welcome him or her into your home with a free gift bag! Call us today at 1-866-834-6061 to claim your bag and hear about our products," reads a new ad appearing in the July 7 issue of Dog Fancy magazine, which is on newsstands now. But when respondents call the number, they'll learn that the ad was placed by PETA and that the bag offered is really a body bag--for the unlucky dog in an animal shelter who is "sentenced to death" because the respondents bought a purebred pup from a breeder or a pet store.
The recorded message explains the hard facts to callers: Buying a puppy means that a dog in an animal shelter loses the chance for adoption, which means that one more dog will be needlessly destroyed. Callers are also told to practice their ABCs--animal birth control--by getting their new dog "fixed" to avoid adding further to the canine overpopulation crisis. Callers are encouraged to adopt, not buy, their next canine companion. The ad is the latest salvo in PETA's national ABC campaign.
Approximately 8 million dogs and cats are turned in to animal shelters every year in the U.S., and roughly half of these animals must be euthanized because of a lack of good homes. Unwanted dogs and cats who don't make it to animal shelters are abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the streets, where they are often subjected to cruelty and suffer from starvation, diseases, or injuries. A simple procedure--spaying for females, neutering for males--is the solution.
"Our ad might shock people, but what is truly shocking is that wonderful dogs in animal shelters are waiting for good homes that they will never find, thanks to greedy breeders and unthinking buyers," says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "Every time someone buys a puppy from a breeder, he or she is signing a death warrant for a pound puppy."

Preserving Our Right To Own And Breed Animals Is Your Responsibility
IN THIS ISSUE:
* FT. LAUDERDALE TURNS DOWN ANIMAL GUARDIANS
* STANISLAUS COUNTY, 7/15 BOS, FEE HIKES INCLUDING $150 UNALTERED DOG LIC.
* EVOLUTION OF DISCRIMINATORY FACTORS IN CALIFORNIA DIFFERENTIAL LICSENSING
BUTTE COUNTY CA, following our May 11 report of pending amendments to the county animal ordinance, the Board of Supervisors deferred a second vote on the proposed changes to the barking law and imposition of cat limits. A facilitated public meeting was held on June 4, attended by approximately 100 citizens and the BOS Animal Ordinance Sub-committee (Curt Josiassen & Bill Connelly), with results reported back to the BOS on June 24. These included dropping the cat limit/cattery provision in favor of a complaint driven cat welfare check with 10 days to remediate deficiencies before enforcement action and retaining the barking provision with changes responsive to public concerns.
TOWN OF PARADISE, BUTTE COUNTY, Town Council on June 10 introduced an ordinance, scheduled for final adoption on July 8, to enact a municipal dangerous animal law in place of reliance on the state dangerous dog law (Food & Agricultural Code Sec. 31601 et. seq.). The new ordinance is generic as to "animals" rather than limited to dogs and establishes an administrative hearing process in place of the judicial hearings provided in state law. This follows months of considered approaches to local dog "attack" incidents.

HALT, YE ANIMAL GUARDIANS! SAID FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA City Commission back on April 15 when it unanimously reversed its April 1 vote (3-2) approving changing its animal ordinance definition of owner to include "guardian" and other related changes. In Defense of Animals had already published an email and website update adding Fort Lauderdale to its list of "guardian" cities, later deleted. One persistent local resident and Florida veterinarians convinced the Commissioners to abandon the "guardian" term. For more information, see http://www.theanimalcouncil.com/Property.html under the Guardian section.

STANISLAUS COUNTY Board of Supervisors has set Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 6:35 p.m. for hearing on proposed increases to unaltered dog license and many animal services fees. The unaltered dog license would be raised from $100 to $150, retaining the "reduced fee" unaltered license at $28.00 and litter license permit fee (dogs and cats) at the original $100 enacted in 2005. Current licensing information is available at: http://www.stancounty.com/animalservices/dog-license.shtm
Staff now reasons that the number of unaltered dog licenses relative to altered has decreased so much since the $100 fee was implemented in late 2005, an additional increase will cause further reduction in numbers of unaltered dogs. They surveyed nearby counties and found only Sacramento at $150 (also has reduced fee $45 for non-breeding "competition" status.) Sacramento County licensing information (and contract cities that did not raise their fees) is at: http://www.acr.saccounty.net/pet-licensing/index.html
Other Stanislaus County fee increases include the "SCATE" (Stanislaus County Alternative to Euthanasia) program reduced fee sterilization vouchers, and staff details the fiscal and responsibility concerns with this program, concluding that increased prices are still a good value for qualifying residents.
EVOLUTION OF DISCRIMINATORY FACTORS IN CALIFORNIA DIFFERENTIAL LICENSING: Stanislaus County (enacted 2005) marked the first appearance of an unaltered dog license fee reduction other than basic unaltered differential authorized by state law available to all owners paying the fee without further discrimination or restriction:
2005 Stanislaus County Code, 7.54.060 Licensing.
"A. Any person owning or having custody of any dog four months or older shall pay an annual license fee. The license fee for dogs shall be established by the board of supervisors and listed in the license fee section of this title. The increased fees collected by the department of animal services for unaltered dogs, less administrative
costs, shall be used to pay for vouchers to support spay/neuter programs.
B. Any person owning or having custody of any unaltered dog who meets any of the following criteria shall pay a reduced unaltered annual license fee as listed in the fee section of this title:
1. An owner who owns or operates an actual livestock working ranch or livestock farming operation of more than two acres; or
2. An owner who registers and participates in an American Kennel Club (AKC), United Kennel Club (UKC), or other state or nationally recognized organization and is a member of a parent club or organization for the purposes of showing, training, agility trials, or hunting and provides documentation to the department of animal
services of such membership and participation in the above animal activities."
Former Stanislaus Animal Services Director Michael McFarland had in late 2006 proposed repeal of the reduced fee provision (along with enactment of "mandatory" sterilization provisions), and it has never been clear if these reduced fee licenses have actually been issued and in what numbers. Presumably, most if not all unaltered licenses are at full $100 or there would be little reason to increase the fee in hopes of further reducing numbers of unaltered licenses. In the past 3 years, the concepts of dog (or sometimes cat) club membership and participation in competitive activities have been used, instead of conferring benefit on certain dog owners, as a bar to obtaining an unaltered license or further restriction even with a license.
In Sacramento County, many contentious meetings took place through 2006 concerning revisions to the animal ordinance, with final enactment in 2007 of the $150 unaltered licensed with a reduced fee unaltered license not as a benefit but restriction. The County does, however, publicize and issue these licenses to owners who can
successfully present qualifying documents:
"Sacramento County $45.00 Reduced Unaltered Fee
The reduced unaltered license is available to Competition Dogs and Cats and Working Ranch Dogs. A Reduced Unaltered License does not allow the animal to be breed. Any animal that is breed must have an unaltered license.
Competition Dogs -
The reduced unaltered license is available to owners who's animals are registered with a valid registry such a AKC, UKC or CFA and are actively showing or have competed with their animal during the previous 12 months, or the animal has achieved a title from a purebred dog or cat registry.
In the case where the animal has recently been purchased or has not competed due to it's current age, a letter from the breeder of the animal stating that this animal is of show quality and was purchased with the intent to be show and a copy of the animals pedigree will met the definition of this category.
Proof that an animal has competed in a show or event can consist of a cancelled check indicating entry fee paid or photo copy of entry catalog with name of owner, animal name and date of show or event.
Working Ranch Dogs -
Working Ranch Dogs are defined as a dog that has been trained and is used to herd and or guard livestock and the dog owner resides on or is the owner of property designated in the Sacramento County Zoning Code for agricultural use.
Application for a working ranch dog license can be in the form of a personal letter stating the address and zoning of the property and the training and use of the dog.
How to Purchase a Reduced License:
A reduced license can be purchased at the shelter or by sending in the required information as indicated above. If you have further question please contact the shelter staff at CountyAnimalCare@SacCounty.net <CountyAnimalCare@SacCounty.net> or (916) 368-7387"
Also in 2006, the Los Angeles County ordinance took the concept of membership and competition a step further to issue unaltered dog licenses only to owners who could meet the County's interpretation of these new "standards". The concept has spread to some other jurisdictions in southern California until the always conservative Los Angeles City Attorney's office added a non-discriminatory alternative qualification - obtaining a breeding permit, albeit at extra cost but without exclusions based on membership or competition. Other local jurisdictions had proposed exclusionary models but delayed action while AB 1634/CAHealthyPets version had been pending.
Now that AB 1634 has been amended to punitive mandatory sterilization rather than a qualifying and exclusionary qualification for all unaltered dogs and cats, the future of local unaltered licensing of dogs, and cats where cat licensing is required, is of critical importance. In this context, a simple high fee such as proposed now in Stanislaus County is preferable to other qualifications that can be either difficult or impossible to meet or implemented in discriminatory ways. While these "qualifications" were initially proposed as distinguishing and even rewarding "responsible" owners, they were quickly turned into tools to make owning unaltered animals difficult or impossible.

I understand that there's a bug going around that's been making dogs vomit for 3-4 days and that seems to have about a week incubation period. This has to be a new strain of a bug because I also understand that adult dogs with mature immune systems that have been to many dog shows are getting it also.
PLEASE, do not bring any sick dogs to a dog show.
Even dogs that are not showing that are sick can pass this on. Some people have younger dogs and puppies that could get into serious trouble should they get this.
Regards,
Jay

It is sad that a post like this even needs to be made. To bring a dog that has knowingly been exposed (whether symptomatic or not) to such a violent illness is just plain selfish and shows a complete lack of respect for the other exhibitors.

I don't know who to blame, the camera or the photographer (John)...lol. But, he seems to take some blurry pictures, and doesn't tell me what to correct on the puppy, i.e, leaning, leg, etc. But, considering I even got him to help me when he didn't get home from work till 9 pm, these are the best I could do.

They are very similar. The dark paws one is slightly bigger, about a lb, and just a tad longer in back.
But I think the person who is taking one (I'll co-own), will probably be taking the white pawed girl (which you like). I'll know this week end. Then we'll keep the other. Either way, I love them both.

I am very happy with them. I've been planning/wanting this breeding all along with Diva. Put off breeding her the one time because it wasn't good timing, then when I did the first time, she didn't take. So these two girls are very special for me.
I will know after this week end who is staying and who is going, and will announce their names.

I have to say that the venue at the San Antonio shows is one of the best I have ever attended.
The facility is topnotch, well staffed and organized with a ton of vendors and a Starbucks in the lobby...But the highlight is the Riverwalk literally across the street... Not only is it beautiful but it has every shop and restaurant...You could, and I did, spend days there and not see everything downtown San Antonio has to offer.
Booker had some success there and received a Group 2 against some of the top dogs and premier handlers in the country....We also had a photo shoot with Tom Weigand of The Winning Image (Something I have been meaning to do for two years). I had a really difficult time deciding from the many nice proofs and was impressed with their patience and willingness to work with me.
This is copied from the paper proofs of one of the final pics (bummed that I have to wait a month for the real deal)... photos un-retouched.

I have been "training" since January. My friend from work and I walked 5 miles the first time, and I thought I was going to die. We built up to 17 by the time it was time for this. I am glad I didn't try anything over 20 before hand though. The way my toes feel now (from walking down hills in SF), I think it will take a month for the throbbing to go away.
This is something I would love to be a part of every year. I invited Jess to join me next year. I figure if I bug the heck out of her for six months or so, maybe she will go for it
