Due to a last minute fixture hiccup, Eastons faced Springfield Sunday 2XI, fielding a reasonably strong batting line up, but a depleted bowling attack. Springfield won the toss and elected to bat first.

After some initial success in the field, particularly with 2 wickets from Mimmack and a sharp catch from Tiffen, the Springfield batting order settled into an aggressive rhythm and capitalised on the weakened Eastons bowling. Stevens, bowling for the first time this season, had a batsman caught behind, and both Stewart and Corns had a batsman caught, but the only bowling of note was Mimmack’s long spell from the Pavilion end. The Springfield total of 213 was testimony to a spirited but ultimately blunt Eastons fielding innings.

The Eastons batting innings got off to a shaky start, with early wickets falling reasonably quickly. Most of the top order made good starts, getting into the early teens, but the increasing required run rate saw many of them play expansive shots and make mistakes. The exception to this was Carlsberg, who continued his fine run of form this season with his first 50 n.o. of the year. His innings was patient, calm and aggressive when the bad ball came his way. Ultimately he and Gilbert managed to bat out the remaining overs for a draw.

Springfield Sunday 2XI 213/7
Mimmack 4-57
Stevens 1-35

Eastons 132/5
Carlsberg 57 n.o.
Gilbert 12 n.o.
