Eastons v Canfield
Eastons produced an excellent batting display, as they posted the kind of total that they have been threatening to post all season. Both Hindley and Mimmack opened safely and valuably maintained a higher run rate than has been the norm. Mimmack was unlucky to be out for 40, and Hindley stayed at the crease long into the innings, eventually being out for 67. Nick Dawson posted 26, displaying a wide range of strokes. The middle order wobbled slightly, but the tail wagged very well, allowing Eastons to finish on 181 for 7.
The Eastons bowling attack performed as well as the batting attack. Mimmack and Corns opened with precision and pace respectively. The initial breakthrough went to Mimmack who had the Canfield opening bat caught behind by Gilbert from an orthodox outside edge. This was a precursor to a textbook display of bowling and fielding from the Eastons side. Gilbert followed this with another catch behind the stumps and both Corns (M) and Dawson had a caught and bowled, the latter particularly deserved after a bruising and expensive couple of overs. The highlight of the fielding innings was Taylor’s catlike reaction at 1st slip to catch an edge from a Canfield middle order batsman.
