Please, at the beginning let me introduce myself. I am a 23-year old Serbian Belgradian engineering student and an avid history fan. From my childhood years I've been fascinated with Byzantine Empire and it's history, and I grew up reading Osstrogorsky's "History of Byzantium" over and over. In fact, Byzantine history has been dearer to me than history of Serbia itself.
However, after all the recent wars Serbia witnessed, I came to realize that there is nothing glorious in warmaking - only endless suffering for families of everyone involved. Besides, our Christian religion commands us not to hate ANYBODY and therefore never make war. I've myself been to Turkey last year, and saw there are a lot of really nice people there, and some of them realize that they are on alien ground, that the true heritage of Anatolia is Greek. They respect that, admit it in all the tourist books they are selling. And it would be a shame to kill them off just because of sins of their ancestors. (After all, alas, Medieval Serbia had a part in destroying Byzantium, too!)
Still, there must be a means of restoring Byzantium peacefully, without killing anybody. And I think the answer is pretty obvious: ADMIT TURKEY IN THE EU. Why? Istanbul is a big city, there surely will be plenty of jobs for educated Christians. Then Turkey will be forced by EU legislation to allow Greek families back into Constantonople, us educated people from Serbia and other Balkan nations will need not go to USA for jobs, we could go to Constantinople, and soon there will be a large Christian population there once again. Did you know that, in this way, there is about 100,000 Serbs in Vienna, with their own distinctive culture there, nightclubs, caffes, everything? Of course there will allways be Turks in Constantinople and Anatalia, as I am all against ethnic cleansing, but at least we might make Hagia Sophia once again an Orthodox Church, and maybe convince them to change the name of the city back to Constantinople/Konstantiniye.
Please tell me what yuu think, I hope I haven't been writing this for nothing.
