My name is Melanie Mayo and I am a college student, mentor, and mother from Minnesota. I am offering individualized, one on one, online tutoring to children of any age. I am about to begin my third year of study in biology, and am currently attending courses online through a local college so that I may stay at home and raise my 6-month-old daughter. I have done a great deal of study in Cell Biology, Genetics and Microbiology, as well as the Reproductive Biology of Women. I am currently on course towards a degree in Research Genetics. At present I am also working online as a mentor to students from my college in the subject areas of General Biology, Cell Biology, and Genetics. This position involves guiding and tutoring fellow students in the subject matter of these courses, as well as the use of the online learning system and the Internet. The position has supplied me with an understanding of mentoring, and its unique importance to the learning process. Because as a teenager I felt conventional high school was inadequate, I attended a home based learning program through a learning center in my hometown. Through this program I found finally a place where I could open my mind and learn freely. I intend to pass this free form of learning on to my own daughter and home school from the beginning. I believe that each individual must follow their own unique path in gaining knowledge, and I hope as a mentor to help facilitate and guide them along this path. I have a great passion for learning of all sorts and work to pass this on to those I mentor. I am not looking for a position that takes the place of the parents in the home school environment, but one that compliments it. I would like to work with the parents/students unique plan to provide the most productive and fulfilling outcome for all. Whether it is an introduction to genetics or a brush up on how our bodies work, I can provide a complete course or just backing in a unique manner. As a child I discovered how difficult it was to find people willing to facilitate a free form of learning, and I strive now to help fill this gap. So if you are looking for a long or short-term mentor for your child in any of the areas of biology, or in other areas of science such as physics, astronomy, or anthropology, I may be your match. I am capable and willing to tutor children of any age. My continuing education allows me many resources at my disposal, both online and off, which I would use to assist me in tutoring through email, conventional mail, or other agreed means. My fees for tutoring would be very reasonable and flexible. For more information, or to set up an individual tutoring plan please email me at mjmayolaakso@yahoo.com Any questions or suggestions are welcome.
