My sister has a 2 year old who has spend these years entirely at home with the housekeeper. It has been fun for her but now we agree that there is more skills that she needs - social skills, etc.

I contacted a christian school who uses the abecka program, but we know precious little about it. We want my niece is have an enriching experience at nursery so, is this a good move for us and is the curriculum at this level stimulating?

Not sure how ABEKA is for the younger ages. I do know their curriculum is very colorful. It contains a lot of Christian content and it tends to be somewhat "advanced." ABEKA has been around for years and years and years. They have a solid reputation and they are used in many parochial schools.

Abeka is an excellent curriculum. Yes it is advanced but most children are able to grasp the information by the age of 4. My son is 8 years old and has dyslexia and he has only been educated in private schools or via home school using the abeka curriculum and he loves it. He was reading, and doing basic addition and subtraction at the age of 4. Since the curriculum is christian based the children develop a strong foundation in christ. I love Abeka and will make sure my son uses it for the duration of his educational experience

I have just begun to seriously consider homeschooling my 7th grade daughter. I have lots of questions, one being which curriculum to choose. You seem very devoted to Abeka and I'd like to know why you choose it over any others. One of my concerns is my ability to ensure my daughter learns all that she'll need to know to be at least keeping up with other students her age in case I should send her back to school at some point. Also, I have only a high school education and worry that I may not be able to teach all she needs to know.

Hi.

We were unschoolers and I never thought we would use Abeka for a few reasons. However, it has been THE best decision we've made!

We use the DvD program and tweak as necessary. Here is what my daughter's 4 year plan looks likes. The first 5 listings for each grade level is done through Abeka's DvD Program 2 (the cost allows for 6 classes but we decided to use a different science).

9th-

Geography (1sem)/Health (1sem)
English 9
Algebra I
French I
8th grade History (because we missed it)
Apologia Biology
Karate
Instrument (she may be changing from violin)

10th-

World History
English 10
Algebra II
Typing A/B
French II
Apologia Chemistry
Karate
Instrument

11th-

US History
English II
Geometry
Speech (1 sem)/Comp App (1 sem)
Spanish I
Apologia Physics
Karate
Instrument

12th-

Gov't (1 sem)/Economics (1 sem)
English 12
Advanced Math
Home Ec
Spanish II
Apologia Science (advanced level of one of the above, anatomy, marine biology)
Karate
Instrument

We hope she'll be able to use some of the above for college credit (AP/CLEP) also.
