Well, I guess things worked out. Or they seem to have..... We found Alex an apartment off campus. 4 bedroom/4 bath. Each room has a private full bath, and lead out to a very nice common area with full kitchen and living area. There is also a washer/dryer in apartment. The complex is very convenient to the bus routes, and about 2 miles from the center of campus. Alex LOVES the apartment and its amenities, and thinks he'll be much happier than in a dorm. So we're making lemonade out of the lemons, I guess.
We went to Preview this week. Alex is double majoring in Telecommunications (tv news) and Math, with a minor in Philosophy, and he's really happy with his classes and schedule. He'll be in the Honors College, and he's starting out with 23 hours of credits based on his AP classes. He's very excited, and so are we. He'll have the Florida Academic Scholar level of Bright Futures, so all tuition and fees are covered, plus $300 a semester for books and other expenses.
We decided to put money on the Declining balance account, so he can eat anywhere on campus, plus transfer a fixed amount to his checking account each week for groceries to eat at the apartment.
We haven't started buying stuff for the apartment yet, but we'll probably start taking inventory pretty soon.
It's all a little strange, because I know that I am not old enough to be the parent of two high schoolers and a college student. DH maybe, but me? How did this happen?
Anyway, it's all good here. I'll post another update as he heads off.... |
