Philips Magnavox TS2768 C107

I bought this back in '97.

Was fine until we had some lightning a few months ago.

Now the colors are all weird in cirles from the center out.

I have no technical experience with TV sets, but I am not completely lost either

Can this be saved for a reasonable amount, or should I just trash it?

Thanks much in advance,

Ole

Assuming the set wasnt dropped, your problem is most likely a defective ptc and/or degaussing circuit relay.

Thanks Fred.

This may sound stupid, but I don't know what the PTC is and what degaussing circuit relay is. I also don't know how much those things cost.

I have tried to kind of degauss it with some very strong magnets without much luck, but unfortunately I do not have a real degausser.

Thanks,

Ole

PTC is a positive temperature coefficient resistor commonly found in degaussing circuits. The relay and PTC are fairly cheap (under $20). Best to use exact replacement parts. Since you dont know what these parts look like, I dont think you should try the repair. Magnets ususlly dont work to properly degauss a tube.

Had a combo approximately same year, 19" I believe. It had same problem. All I did was deguass and was working fine. Customer came in 2 months later said was still working fine. Note: this customer was hit "hard" (lightning). Replaced antenna, coax, and some equipment.

Do you have a copy of the schematic for this model?
