bad caps?

I have a Mitsubish vs-6051 that has a strange problem.
If its been off for a while (longer than an hour or two), when you turn it on the power light just pulsates and the set won't come on. If you turn it off, then on again it will work fine for as long as you leave it on.
could this be a bad cap on the main power suply,I can't seem to find one bad or is it in the high voltage? I would be greatful for any help fixing this problem.

I really like this set, and can fix it myself if someone could point me in the right direction. I have had no luck with any info about this model whenever I look around forums like this. I don't have anyone close to where i live who will even look at the set.

try lowering the voltage to about 85-95 volts and then see it will come on. if it does , then it may be going into shut down. if it works, then you need to work on the high voltage section.

The on/off problem went away and was working fine for a while, now the set turns on and goes very bright (almost white screen) and out of focus. It stays on for about 20-30 seconds then shuts down.

Check the 200 volt supply to the CRT boards. If it is missing you will have the symptom you described.

would this be from the main power suply board attached behind the chassis near the flyback? or am I looking in the wrong place?

This would be under the flyback transformer, under where the focus and G2 control is

Thank you, thats what I thought.I was hoping not to have to pull that board again. I will check into this weekend.
What should I be looking for if I don't see the 200v?
I was just saying about 2 days before this problem happend, that the picture looked a slight bit out of focus but thought it was just me. Guess it wasn't me, although lasik might have been cheeper if it was.

ok, no 200v.
What should I be looking for?
Any help would be apreciated greatly, thank you to those who have helped thus far. I work on touch screen electronics all day, this is much different than what I work with, but I think with help I could fix it.

The 200 V supply is probably supplied fron the secondary of the flyback. Look for a diode near an el cap which will be something like 10 mfd@250volts (The 200 volt filter) Also look for an open fusible resistor at the anode of this diode.

David

Also, with the set off, check the resistance of the 200 volt supply to ground- there may be a shorted component like a transistor or IC on one of the CRT boards. (Would take out a fusible resistor.)
