Can anyone tell me what the cause of the loud sparking sound is when attempting to turn on the set. Is this worth fixing? the set has been used very occationally and has relatively few hours on it. It is a 2000 model.

it could be a loose anode on crt. do you smell anything hot? can you see the sparks in a dark room? do you see any corona, or smell ozone? check around the high voltage transformer. is it constant sparking, or just a little bit of snapping sometimes?
