I need help. I have searched and found similar problems, but no clear answers. I have recently been given a Mitsubishi VS-60707 manufactured in 2000. The previous owner had problem with it not powering up when turned on. When the power button is pressed, the power light comes on very briefly and goes back off without the TV coming on. If anyone can provide me with information on what the problem is, I would greatly appreciate it.

No one can, it is liable to be an issue with the scans, but that needs testing to find out. About 20 years ago Philips invented a system of protection for TVs which sent a signal from the processor around every stage then back to the processor. If any stage did not work the processor shut the set down. It was X sq C. What you have is XsqC kicking in. It has been known to be a bad speaker, what you want is an easy answer, that is not what you can ever get. So educate yourself or pay the educated, or dump it.

The chassis is VZ8. I was planning on having someone work on it, but I was just trying to get a basic idea of what could possibly be wrong and if it was worth the time and money to have it repaired. I know that the previous owner has had it repaired before with the same problem. That is how I aquired it. They did not want to mess with having it repaired again when the same problem occured again. They simply decided to upgrade.
