I have a Hitachi 54" TV that is randomly turning off. It's never at the same time. Sometimes it comes right back on and other times it takes anywhere from 5 min to 30 min before it'll come back on.
I've taken the power supply board and resoldered all the connections, thinking that it was over heating and melting the solder. well that worked for about two weeks. then it started right back up again.
Is this just going to be a continuous cycle of soldering?
Or is there something else to do.

if soldering solves the problem each time, then you need to check for some bad caps, in the area that you are soldering, because something is semi-shorting and causing things to get too hot, and thus melting solder.

You didn't furnish a model or chassis # of this set. but if it is an older Hitachi, you can absolutely bet on at least half of the electrolytic capacitors being bad on the power supply board. They simply dry up over the years.
You need to call out an experienced tech and tell him to bring along his ESR meter!
