television won't stay on.

I just came back from a garage sale with a free Symphonic tv/video casette combo. only problem is that it doesn't stay on. the man who gave it to me said that his nephew had put in a tape upside down into the tape player and it hasn't been able to stay on for more than ten seconds since.

this is probably complicated as hell to fix and not worth it... but it seems to be worth a shot.

What have the tape to do with the tv not to keep the tv set to stay on ? is the video tape or the tv at fault check that out and tell us also mod.# and more info.

It could quite possibly be a mechanical fault with the VCR deck. Do you hear the load motor trying to run? Look for a broken loading belt, a dirty mode switch or any other obvious mechanical malfunction.
The micro in that set checks for proper operation of the deck and if an error is found turns the set off.
