I've been seeing a lot of Best Buy commercials advertising LG sets. I've never worked on one (yet)....are they a cheap set from Korea/China? What's your opinion of them for home use and also on repairs and getting replacement parts.

LG is the old Goldstar, they have tried to re-invent themselves as a mid market producer, My opinion is they have suceeded. As suppliers to the mass market with a good product I think they are doing well. Philips use them as do a few other manufacturers to fill a gap in their range. This should tell you where they are at. As to components used, some are real issues as they relate to, I believe, store location so a transistor A49/32D may turn out to be 2SC1234.
