I have a VS50803, its from 98, but I have a few problems. I don't have the original remote, and I can't get the setup menu to turn off. I was thinking of buying the remote (its fairly cheap online), but now the TV keeps turning itself off and on. It will stay on for about 4 mintues, then turn off, then turn right back on. If I turn off the TV, it just turns right back on itself also. The only way I can get it to stay off is if I unplug it. Everything else is great with the TV, the sound, the picture everything.

I think if I bought the remote I should be able to turn off the setup menu with that (think there might be a problem with the button on the TV? but I don't want to do that if I am going to continue to have the major issue with the TV turning itself off every 4 mintues.

Any ideas?

you have a fault in the TV, a new remote does not fix an old fault.

take the old remote out of the room, & see if it still does it.

9 year old set, many problems could cause this , anything from weak capacitors to a stuck button on the front panel
