Our television stopped working yesturday. At the time it stopped working we were playing a Playstation II game on it. About 1/2 hour before it stopped working we heard a noise similar to a small fire cracker going off. Then 1/2 hour later another one and the TV went blank. There was a slight burning smell. We unplugged the TV. Several hours later we plugged it back in and tried to turn it on. The power light now came on once then again a few seconds later but the TV did not. Any suggestions?

well If you know anything about tv repair or electronics then we'll be able to help, if not, then take it to a tech, or to the trash.

That was a very rude response! I thought this forum was here to provide help. I have called a repair person (that can not come to our home for at least a week), but I was wondering if someone could give us some help in the meantime. Sometimes there are simpler things you can check for. Similar to being diagnosed by a doctor. I don't have to be a doctor to know if my child has a cold. Thank you for your kind help.

It would help if you would post the chassis number on this forum. But I can tell you this: Without at least a little electronics skill and knowledge, you are NOT going to fix your set yourself.

IT SOUNDS LIKE SOME CAPACITORS HAVE BLOWN OUT. YOU CAN LOOK AT THE ENTIRE CHASSIS TO SEE IF YOU MIGHT SPOT THEM. THEY WILL LEAVE A COTTON TYPE PAPER AROUND, AND THEY WILL BE SWELLED UP. GOOD LUCK
