Broken Toshiba 32A10

I have a 7 year old 32" CRT tv. There was a power outage a few weeks ago after which I started having problems. The sound would come on but the picture would take awhile. Sometimes the sound and picture would go off and the red power indicator light on the front would blink. I found that if I hit the side of the set, the tv would come alive. Pretty soon this technique would fail and at this point just the sound comes on with no picture.

Is this fixable? I have basic electronic knowledge and some skills.

Thanks!

Slap that set

If you have to slap the set then you have cold solder joints, Tv's heat up and cool down at diferant rates, this some times causes the solder to crak leaving a open in the conection, first thing to do is resolder the board. Some of these solder conections will be easy to see others hide as small ring fractures, so if it's your first time simply retouch all of them

By resoldering, do I just heat up the joints without adding any solder? Should I just do the circuit board attached to the tube?

If resoldering doesn't work, what other possibilities could it be?

Thanks,
Byron

I always add a little bit of solder when I reheat a joint. That little bit of solder has some flux inside it and helps it flow to the old solder that is already there. It doesn't take much and you do not want a "blob". If you add too much, use a solder-sucker or solder wick to remove all the solder and then reapply some new to the joint.

Start at the power supply and also the high voltage sections for your problem. Doubt the problem is the small board at the back of the tube.

As for other possibilities, there are too many to list. You will have to do basic electrical checks of the power supply & horizontal output transistor first and report back with your findings.
