I have a toshiba tv ( over 10 years old ) model number CF27C30. the other day i was watching tv and noticed it was taking longer to come on. like it had to warm up first. then the next day i get sound and the only picture i get is a line about 2 milimeters wide that goes straight accross the screen. in this line is the entire picture that is supposed to be spread out over the screen. so i am thinking ( and i might be wrong since i am not repair guy ) that the horizontal stabilizer went bad?? if so i this a easy fix. is it something i could do myself? i called the local repair shop and he wants over 250.00 to repair. at that price it is just cheaper to replace the entire tv but since i do not have the money for a new tv i am trying to see if i have a shot to fix this myself.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have no vertical, horizontal is fine. Replace the red colored electroltic capacitors. Should be 3 or 4 of them. Also check the vertical circuit for bad solder connections and replace all electrolytics their. Parts should cost under $10. If your set was working perfect, could you sell it for $250?? A ten year old 27" set you would be lucky to get $50.You could buy a set this time of the year for $150 or less.

You need to replace the caps,if they're bad my freind, you need to check them first,as so the vertical IC, try to resolder this one first before replacing.poke around the pins with a plastic spoke and see if pic comes around if so than you don't need to replace the Vert IC,only needs resoldering.good luck.

The parts is cheap. That cost you more is the sevice charge. If you try by yourself you need the necessary tools for repair and no guarantee that you might create a new problem on top of the real issue.
