The picture is perfect for a period of time after the tv is initially turned on, but after it warms up (perhaps 15-20 minutes), the color shifts. The shifting is much more prominent on the left side of the picture and is progressively less noticable as you track from left to right across the picture and is nearly non-existant on the right side of the picture. There are purple and green halos around all images on the left side of the screen. It appears to be caused by heat, because the shifting was substantially delayed by placing a fan against the back and blowing air across the circuitry. I had to move the tv to install new carpet and the problem seems to have started immediately after the tv was moved back to its original location. The picture would correct itself for a short period of time if I would slap the left side of the tv chasis. The picture would also correct itself temporarily if I tap a heatsink on a horizontal circuit board on the bottom of the tv on the right side (looking from the rear), the same side as the major color shift. I would appreciate any assistance.

This set may have large "STK" integrated circuits that control the convergence. Since you can get the problem to change by tapping on it, you probably have some bad solder joints at these ICs. Look for a really big heat sink with 2 ICs on it that start with with STK. It could be something like STK392-010. Those ICs run really hot. As a result, they develop bad solder joints on them. This could be a real simple fix for someone familiar with soldering.
Good luck...report back.

The model number is GB65HD09W. The circuit board that I wuz referring to is the circuit board that you describe. The ICs are labeled STK392-020. It is actually a smaller heat sink near the larger one that, if tapped, causes the picture to recover. I discovered that if i move the heat sink ever so slightly to the right that the picture recoevers, as well. Given this, I took a zip tie and wrapped it around that heat sink and a nearby heat sink and tightened it ever so slightly aorund both heat sinks and the picture recovered and has stayed that way for the past couple hours. I agree with your analysis that it is probably a solder connection. Getting that board out to resolder doesn't seem like it would be any easy task. Is it wishful thinking to think that my little Macguyver fix will be long lasting?

Thomas Lenny is right just resolder those ic's and you'll be fine,i know that to get to those ic's is a pain in the neck,i've done that in a mitsubishi i had to remove the board that was in in meadle had to lift the 3 crts, you may need help, i did need it,goog luck
