Someone gave me a Hitachi Ultravision (12 yrs. old) Model#506x22ba v6d056944, manufactured date: April 1996. I was told it worked but they didn't want to move it. (big sucker, I was)
Anyway...I get two big guys to move it to my house, I turn it on and the color is totally off with ghosting shadows. I ran the magic, it didn't fix the problem. Since I am totally illiterate when it comes to TV repair and cannot afford to hire someone to fix it, is there anyone out there that can tell me if this is a repairable issue? I am not beyond rolling up my sleeves and trying to fix it with direction. I really would love to try to get this TV working for den.
I thank any knight in shining armor who is willing to help and would even ship some of my delicious Kalua Chocolate Chip Cookies to that galant individual.
Best Regards,
Damsel in Distress!

Change the convergence amplifiers. I think they are STK 391-150's on that model. Open back to be sure. They are mounted on the large aluminum heat sink. Amps are about 1.5x3x1/2" in size. Sometimes a fuse or resistor may also fail. Cost is $12 to $25, depending on where you get them from. They are readily available. The person changing these parts MUST know what they are doing to avoid damaging circuit foil and causing solder shorts.
