First off, I live overseas in a country where television repairmen are about as common as sunshine and happiness. So getting someone to come and look at my tee vee is not an option.
Here's what's happening:
About a week ago, the TV started shutting itself off and turning itself back on automatically. It works fine for a couple of minutes, then shuts itself off and turns itself on. A minute or two will pass, then it will do the same thing again. I noticed it did this after the TV had been left on for several hours.
I tried doing some research on the internet and realized I've probably got a major problem.
I unplugged the TV and left it alone for over 4 hours (I read that this would "reset" it) and when I came back things worked fine.
Last night the same thing happened. I had watched a lot of TV the night before, so last night I unplugged it and am going to let it sit for today as well as there's a big football game I want to watch tomorrow.
Aside from "slapping" the TV, the advice I received was that I'm basically screwed and that it's some internal part that is automatically shutting off to protect the TV.
As I will not be able to get a repairman to look at it, is there any advice on what I can do as a complete novice to fix it? I'm going to be here for 9 more months and can't get another TV in even if I wanted to. If there was some way to order the part and do it myself, I'd be willing to consider it.
Any info anyone has would be most appreciated. Thanks. |
