Hello all!

I have a Toshiba 32DF46 that is having an intermittant vertical collapse problem. I searched the forum and can not find any reference to my particular model set with this problem, so I'd like to ask the expersts for a little help!

What's started happening is that the set will come on fine when first powered on, but after 5-10 minutes the picture will (intermittantly) collapse to a horizontal line therough the middle of the screen. There have been times when it has corrected itself within 30 seconds, and there have been times when I have had to power off the set (anywhere from once to multiple times) for approx 3 minutes to reset the condition.

It almost seems to me this problem may be heat related...? I have removed and inspected the TV MT PCB board for cold solder joints on IC401 and the surrounding components. Visual inspection did not reveal any. Could this problem be a cap breaking down? If so, can anyone point me in the direction of which cap(s) I should replace?

Here is a link to the service manual and schematics for my set: http://www.audiolabga.com/pdf/32DF46.pdf (Ref DEFLECTION SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM G5 - G6)

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Dave

Toshiba's vertical problem - common problem.
Please check the few capacitors (not this model but same as all toshiba tv),the capacitors are different from the rest and brown in colour.
See if there's any leak to the board.
But capacitors fault usually is not a horizontal line.
The picture height will be low and not cover the screen for top and bottom.
As for your case,it's best to replace the vertical IC first.
