THE Opposition has welcomed the continuing investigation by Taiwanese Government to get to the bottom of the failed Taiwan/PNG
diplomatic dollar racket which defrauded Taiwan of $US29.8 million (K85 million) by two brokers in a bid to establish diplomatic
ties with PNG.
Leader of the Opposition Sir Mekere Morauta said Papua New Guineans wanted to know more about the involvement of the Somare
government in this saga.
Minister for National Planning Paul Tiensten, Public Accounts Committee chairman Timothy Bonga and private lawyer Florian Gubon
have all admitted their involvement.
Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has admitted to having two meetings in 2006 with former Taiwanese foreign minister James Huang.
He has so far refused to inform the people of the matters discussed at the meeting.
Control Yuan, Taiwans anti- corruption organisation has already charged former Secretary General of the National Security Council,
Chiou I-jen and Mr Huang over this scandal. In 2006, Taiwan Foreign Ministry deposited $US29.8 million in an account with the OCBC
Bank in Singapore and appointed Mr Ching Chi-ju and Wu Shih-tsai, two Singaporean businessmen, as middlemen.
Taiwans foreign ministry ordered investigations after the diplomatic deal failed and began court actions against those involved.
On May 16, 2008, private lawyer Dr Florian Gubon admitted his involvement in the saga. He also revealed of the existence of the
signed Draft Communiqué by the Somare Government, establishing full diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Dr Gubon said his involvement
together with Messrs Tiensten and Bonga had the authority of the Prime Minister.
He alleged among others that:
* Middle Fly MP Roy Biyama was directed by Sir Michael to cut short a private visit to Israel and join Mr Tienstens team in
Singapore to travel to Taiwan;
* US$200,000 was paid to him (Dr Gubons). He subsequently passed $US50,000 to Wu Shih-tsai; and
* Further K50,000 and K15,000 were given to two other Papua New Guinea leaders.
Oppositions attempts to get the Prime Minister and the Parliament to discuss the saga were gagged by the Government through the
Speaker.
On Monday (April 28) the media reported that authorities in Taiwan were finding it difficult to call the Papua New Guinea Guests
who were part of the Taiwan/PNG diplomatic scandal.

Let me tell you the first respondent. Look, it is true. Somare sanctioned the Taiwan deal. Do you have ears and eyes to hear and read? Did you know that Somare is a political star who can manipulate, get angry, duck and run in the night when things do not go his way (claiming to be a traditional man, kastom man as he said after sneaking off from Wabag during the last NEC Elections), he lies too much like in the case for his yearly returns, Motigate affair, Taiwan deal, shares he owns in the shipping company in PNG, uses the courts to defend his stupidity, gets richer, says all Papua New Guineans are rich, says all Papua New Guineans have food on the table, no one is starving in PNG, there is food grown in the hills of Port Moresby (what a stupid way to defend one's position and arguments, let alone to an Australian media), health system in PNG is working and rated class, education is serving its intended purpose by way of educating every citizen, everyone has roof over his/her head without admitting the fact that 25% of Port Moresby's population scavenge food at Baruni Dump site, without admitting that fact that the Keremas and SHP people are suffering though he is building empires in Gold Coast from the kick baks and proceeds from their own oil and gas and the decisions he makes, when his own village is in dire straits with not even a simple aid post, So Mr. sir or whoever, tell me what justice and fairness has been promoted by Samare in his 40 years? The only visible one is asking the Australian government to give PNG independence. You know what? Australia did not want POM to be like Sydney or Melbourne so they accepted it. That's only after dredging enough alluvial gold from Wau/Bulolo in Morobe Province to build cairns and other major cities in Australia....So so Somare is the bugger and that's fact...

Where is the proof that somare sanctioned the Taiwanese deal? I don't mean to doubt you (or others) but you guys can't just jabber and jabber that something is true without showing some proof.

I pity the country when the founder of the country and his cronies are now planning their exit strategies.

Steal as much as possible, use the country as a passport to negotiate deals with other countries to sell as much as possible and get out!!!

Where does that leave our people. Still thrashing about the the crime and poverty quagmire!

Don't know why you post this kind of stuff on this site. We mourn and groan over these issues, put our views here yet they don't go any where. Seems are waste of you own time responding to such issues over these site. Nothing has being done, will not be done for ever and ever..

PNGSCAPE is full of do nothings, always has been, always will be. For a start, the audience is riddled with people who escaped PNG for money, plus sons and daughters of corrupt politicians now schooling overseas, plus a lot of students who have never seen life as any more than making money, no matter at whose expense.

The fact is that these great PNGean revolutionaries you see on the internet are nothing more than cyberimagination experts. They're nameless opponents of corrupt politicians because they're no different than the rest of us-too dumb, too lazy, or too frightened to do anything more than post on the internet.

Probably the revolutionary armies, the Somare fighters, etc are all the same people. They'll ask us to march behind masks but they probably won't be there. They tell us how terrible Somare is (and he is) but they are overseas students and mercenary moneymakers in Australia who will never to more than complain and bitch on the internet about corrupt leaders.

In short, they are all bark and no bite-no different than any of the rest of us.

There is no doubt that Michael Somare Orchestrated the whole saga of conning the Taiwanese Government. So there really isn't any question about whether or not he took the money, HE TOOK THE MONEY

We now know that he sent his "henchmen" to collect the money while he himself couldn't be seen to be directly associated with the cash from Taiwan. I am intrigued as to whether the Chinese government actually pressured these guys to take the money and run (like good little gangsters), so was there a conspiracy? Or was this out of pure greed. Id love to see if our PNG writers or journos could actually write a novel about this. Makes for exciting reading in PNG.

His bagmen are identified by Post Courier as Paul Tientsien, Timothy Bonga, Roy Biyama, Dr Florian Gubon. As another writer on this post pointed out. They only have to take the Post Courier to court and win the case to prove their innocence. The money trail leads to Somare.

I've wondered too where Patrick Pruaitz fits into the grand schema of things here, perhaps he was not involved because he was satisfied with the $US 40million from the log export levy snugly waiting in his Singapore account.

The PNG MPs and ministers have their dirty little fingers in every resource deal in PNG jumping over each other to be first in the que. You only have to be in one of those closed door meetings in a private home to see them arguing and squabbling over the 10% "cuts" like children fighting over candy.

Now that this is happening at the top leadership levels, Id be very interested to see what the public servants down the line are going to to . . . increase their corruption dealings with other ordinary people at our level(with our 'boss mekim, mipla tu mekim')?.

And finally where does that leave most of the ordinary people of PNG, do we still suffer and die from curable illnesses because there are no equipment or medicines, and send our children to schools where there are no teaching aids, the curriculum is a mess and our young children have no opportunities in this world so they forever will resort to life crime that eventually becomes habitual.

Our lower echelon workers will continue to work for K100 ($40 per fortnight) a fortnight... how do they pay for food, soap, clothes school fees, hospital fees, bus fare (how do they squeeze all these into K100).

Why doncha spend your time fighting Somare in more effective ways. This posting says it all:
