Lemieux hopes to skate soon

Mario Lemieux is hoping to put on his skates soon, Penguins general Manager Craig Patrick told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

''I don't know of any timetable, but he's hoping to skate,'' Patrick said. ''He's been conditioning and trying to get back to where he can skate. He's not there yet.''

Lemieux still requires medical clearance to return to the ice, where he has not been since early November.  He has only played in 10 games for the Penguins this season

Lemieux had arthroscopic surgery to repair chronic tendonitis of his left hip flexor on January 13.

Though his NHL season is over, Lemieux may be looking to test his repaired hip for the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.  The tournament gets underway early in September and all teams must name 18 players to the roster in May.  The complete 23-man roster must be named by June 20.

Every bone of his body has already retired, but he's still trying. Anyway, even in a wheelchair, he's still above one point per game. He can help any team.

Lemieux hopes to skate soon

"Mario Lemieux is hoping to skate," Penguins general Manager Craig Patrick told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "to help the Penguins win the 2004 Stanley Cup" (sic).

No one had the courage to tell the star that the Penguins were dead last in the NHL. Lemieux said, "I look forward to playing with my buddies Hrdina and Jagr. With Straka, Lang and Kovalev on the second line, we should do well in the Finals."

Mario Lemieux attended the last practice of the Pittsburgh Penguins and asked a friend, "Who are these guys? Why are they practicing now, if the Penguins had reserved the rink?"

OMG Mehdi too funny. OK Chris leave him alone. Any Pens fan will say if he wants to help Canada win that Cup more power to him. However,if there is hockey next season he better be on the ice for his team, even if its in a wheelchair.

That is just the odd thing about him: he's too injured/tired/apathetic to play for his team, that needs him, and then he's OK to play in the Olympics or the World Cup. Playing in the Olympics or World Cup is a great honor and very exciting, but just looks very bad for the man who is one of the greatest of all times.
