I'm the Weeping Willow, and I approve of this post.
Mike Ridley: "Traded to Toronto by Washington with St. Louis' 1st round choice (previously acquired, Toronto selected Eric Fichaud) in 1994 Entry Draft for Rob Pearson and Philadelphia's 1st round choice (previously acquired, Washington selected Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994 Entry Draft, June 28, 1994."
With the Caps, Pearson played 32 season games (0-6-6 and 96 PIM) and 3 playoff games (1-0-1 and 17 PIM) in the shortened 1994-1995 season; while Mike Ridley had good stats in his last 3 NHL seasons with Toronto and Vancouver.

i have really surprised myself by not missing anyone, really. kono, probably the most. i miss bondra, i guess. as many of you know, he was by far my favorite professional athlete ever. but now, i'm so damn excited to see what all these kids can do, i don't really miss the old guys too much. i certainly do NOT miss simon, gonchar, zednik.
Almost invariably, when people think back to the '98 playoff series against the Sabres, they remember one of two plays- Bondra's overtime goal in Game 3, in Buffalo, and Juneau's "put them in the Finals" overtime goal in Game 6.
But there was another overtime, game-winning goal scored by a Capital in that series- Todd Krygier, in Game 2. The first overtime game winner of the series.
Without Krygier's goal (and assuming the Sabres had won the game instead), the Caps would have gone to Buffalo, down 2 games to 0, and facing a dominant goalie in his own house (Hasek).
Without Krygier's goal, Juneau may never have gotten the chance to pot his; Bondra may have still got his, but the Caps still would have been losing the series 2-1 at that point, and facing Hasek in Buffalo.
Todd Krygier. Role player. Toiled in anonymity as a Cap for years. One of the first ex-Caps brought back to the team, and maybe the only one who ever paid off big time for the organization.
I don't miss retired players, or those who never fit here, or high-salary players. I don't miss them because I don't want them back.
I'd be glad to see if Zednik can click with our wunderkinder, though. He scored 79 goals in the last 3 seasons (Zubrus: 42), and only missed 3 games (Zubrus: 58). He had Bondra's stats in the last 2 seasons (Zednik, 31-19-50 and 26-24-50; Bondra, 30-26-56 and 26-23-49).
